Was there any indication there would be a second series, I know the first season ended in an open way but I have never seen any indication they were intending to make more?

Not really; I think people were just being hopeful given its immense popularity in the west.

I suppose the key question is how did it do in Japan. To answer my own question the lack of an announcement on further episodes seems to indicate that it didn't make the grade in this respect.

oh come on theres been loads of anime that been so good outside japan that there was a demand for them,

i honestly think the japanese should ask us of what we'd like to have a new series of, were fans too doesn't that count for something

I don't think Manga UK (or most western companies) can afford to do a BD for one episode. They were probably hoping to have a second season announced so they could pop it on a future set, but it hasn't happened yet. To be fair to them I appreciate that they're trying to get the footage into the hands of fans for now instead of sitting on it forever the way companies usually do in those circumstances.

I think I recall Sentai saying they'd of picked it up for their release of the original series if it had been out sooner, and that they'd get it for the 2nd season. Which ofc has not materialised, the fact the Manga is unfinished can't be helping the cause either.

No, considering we're not their target audience as sorts.

If we were willing to pay £30 for two episodes we might have some leverage...

To quote Jonathan Clements: "Domestic sales will always come first for the Japanese, as foreign money, in these credit-crunchy times, is back to being just gravy."

Some Aniplex 'import' releases come with surveys which do, in fact, ask fans what they'd like to see animated. The entry level price to have your opinion counted is rather high, though.

Makes a certain amount of sense, if you've bought one release you might be prepared to buy another if the right title is released. No point listening to the masses if the masses are not prepared to actually buy anything.
