You know what I find funny, the fact it's rated 18 yet you don't see a single female nipple in it whatsoever (the OAV I mean). Perverted to say I know but just something odd I noticed

Nipples don't rate something as an 18, usually that's 12-15 territory depending on context. An 18 rating is usually violence, and I can't say I recall any from this OAV, I'd expect it to be a 12 -15 tbh.

Yeah, but "rational" isn't a word often found in sentences also containing "BBFC" and "anime". I've stopped being surprised by the stupidity of each individual decision they make, preferring to concentrate all fire on the general illegitimacy of their very existence.

Anyway, this was a nice thing for Manga to do to enable buyers of the original release to complete their collection without being forced to double dip. I uh, do hope the re-release still sells well for them though...

EIther this means the OVA is more risqué than episode 6 of the TV series (best fanservice episode ever btw), which escaped with a 15 rating, or this is the BBFC being, well the BBFC. I'm looking forward to finding out!

Seeing as I won't be going to the Expo, what I'm going to do is flog my BD to CeX for £6 and pick up the re-release w/OVA from Amazon at a net cost of £5.50 or thereabouts. Cheaper than having someone get me a copy of the standalone OVA and paying them for postage.

Wait, wait, wait...so the Blu-Ray re-release of HOTD will have the OVA as DVD only too ? Or that will be Blu-Ray ?

Wow, that is a real downer...Manga UK really nailed it there...the OVA was released on Blu-Ray only in Japan, no DVD release there, but Manga took the Blu-Ray and watered it down to DVD...they were probably too cheap to use a Blu-Ray disc for "only" ~4-5 GB data :D

I don't think Manga UK (or most western companies) can afford to do a BD for one episode. They were probably hoping to have a second season announced so they could pop it on a future set, but it hasn't happened yet. To be fair to them I appreciate that they're trying to get the footage into the hands of fans for now instead of sitting on it forever the way companies usually do in those circumstances.

Yea, it would be pointless to put just 1 episode on a BD, but why didn't they just put it on the 2nd disc ? In this case they wouldn't even had to produce a 3rd disc -> they would have saved more money+the quality would have been better.

OR they are too lazy to edit the menu of the 2nd disc to include an extra button for the OVA and instead they reduce the quality and pay for an extra disc ? It's just blows my mind, what were they thinking ?!

But I'm guessing it is probably because they already have the discs made from the previous release and they will just repack those into a new BD case and if they edit the 2nd disc they would have to throw out the old ones ending with loosing money ... :/

From what they've said in the past, it's implied to me that even just redoing a BD master overreaches them in cost. I don't think they've ever redone one by choice, have they?

Redoing the Haruhi movie to fix a crippling bug was presumably similar; they instead chose to cancel the release entirely.

I don't know how their agreements or stock levels work specifically, but I presume the added sales they would expect from redoing the second disc wouldn't compensate for the cost of remaking the BD master for a new print run. It might have been different if the US had reissued the series with the OVA and made a new disc as well.

Oh well, at least it is just 1 episode, they can get really close to BD quality since it is just 1 episode on the disc. Funny thing is, that most of the DVD will be just free space if they don't include trailers and other extras, since the Japanese BD was about 4,5 GB, so if they encode it to DVD, the size will be about 1-1.5 GB.

I hope they will encode it properly, if they do, then there will not be much difference between the DVD and the BD.

Was there any indication there would be a second series, I know the first season ended in an open way but I have never seen any indication they were intending to make more?
