Sounds like it could be a good film, especially with Spielberg backing it.

Let's just hope it doesn't become a Matrix clone though.

Actually the Matrix took lots of influences from GITS.^_^

But people ignorant of GITS might think they ripped the Matrix off when it was the Matrix that took inspiration from GITS.

all I'm worried about is that they might lose sight and have it either become too pretentious or just focus on the action sequences leaving it feeling like a Matrix clone

I guess this is sort of what I meant by Matrix clone. :wink:

I guess this adaptation is based on the Manga/Movie rather than the SAC series? I would have thought that the SAC series would translate better into the live action field, but then again, I guess the manga has a deeper tone to it which provides an extra level for the film to portray (of course, they'll probably just go for all out action and ignore this anyway...)

I have low expectations of this, as I generally do of US remakes or adaptations of Far East media, so actually won't care if it's good or bad.
