Digital Economy Bill

It amazes me Labour have the gaul to try to take away internet when they haven't even made BT get rid of the old telephone lines and replace them with fibre optics.

There are reasons behind that.

If a nuke went off....the only things that would carry on working are the ghetto old tech.

i laugh at the whole video game classification thing

wasn't that what the BBFC or PEGI is for? and to be honest, couldn't the parents/older relatives buy the games for the kid anyway? this doesn't do anything! it just infringes our human rights

BBC IPlayer quick link = Aimless (if i wanted to go online and watch bbc Iplayer...i'd do it via the Internet explorer button)
I've used the iPlayer a couple of times. Mainly when I missed an episode of Buzzcocks. It's really awesome actually. It like... loads fast. It's a different version of it than what would appeal if you just typed in the address as well.

Best quote I got from someone I know who knows about this was "Pointless, there will be ways to get around it, IF it even passes".
Seems like a massive waste of time and money.
I can't see this being passed in my opinion. They should just find a better way to stop people downloading music and films without trying to control everyone. As for blocking a household from the internet because someone was doing something.. You'll have people going to free wifi points, as there are a lot now, and downloading there instead of at your house.

On a side note, I hate Virgin, and I wish my internet would stay online and my DNS would stop going down. At this rate I wont have internet on long enough to be bothered by this. (4th time posting this same message)

Virgin annoy me from time to time, but they're better than they were earlier in the year.

I'd change to someone better, but for speeds, there is noone better in my area.

I used to have NTL, I was happy. Then Virgin bought them out, didn't even tell me in advance... sent a letter a few months later saying "you may have noticed some changes in your connections stability and speed, this is cause ___" >_<

We have the most expensive package Virgin offer. To their credit, it's quite acceptable for the majority of time. I say this whilst touching wood, however.
(I pray you don't misinterpret the above sentence.)

Misinterpret, purposefully twist, meh. :p
Pretty sure we're on the most expensive one too, but it has issues fairly often. :/ Maybe different areas have better technicians. We've had quite alot of service outages, and we're not even a rural area.

Damn, I was thinking of moving to Virgin from bSKYb (due to obvious reliability + customer service reasons), but now I'm not sure. I would go for Be, but their prices seem a bit step...

Urgh Mandleson!!! I want to strangle him. He's a Tory in a Labour government >______>

The fact that that there are 2 workarounds with this. 1 is to use a proxy so you hide your IP and can download stuff and 2 Use an open wifi point.

If this means people who torrent stuff get booted off the internet, does that mean people who torrent anime would as well?

From what I've read, current goings-on in Westminster are being described as the concocting of some sort of poisoned chalice for the next Government.
It's like a situation in which everyone wins, only completely negated.

Just... like... all the other front bench Labour MPs have been since the advent of 'New Labour' then?

With the possible exception of John Prescott - now there was a man I would have liked to see in charge. Call me mad but he was honest and straight talking - can you say that about anyone in cabinet today? Someone throws an egg at him and he gets punched in the face - the appropriate and correct response not only to that, but to several other policy issues: "Why won't the NHS pay for my expensive medicine, which will enable me to live for a few more months in crippling pain when the money could treat dozens of other people for a more prevalant disease?" POW! "We don't want a wind farm here, it will lower our property values." POW! "How dare the government force me, an eighty-year old widow living alone, to sell my six bedroomed mansion to fund my social care?" POW! "Immigrants are taking our jobs!" POW!

(I've been fair there I think, that involves flooring middle and working class people)
