It's that time already!

Crunchyroll are getting ahead with things and have announced...

Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse

although they'll be calling it Total Eclipse, and regions are yet to be determined.

The first addition to Crunchyroll's Summer anime lineup is Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, based on the spin-off to Age's 2006 visual novel Muv-Luv Alternative. The series features the voice talents of Kenji Hamada (Hanasaku Iroha, Bakuman) and Sayaka Ohara (xxxHolic, Fairy Tail), with Takayuki Inagaki (Desert Punk, Rosario + Vampire) directing.

Full details regarding territories and streaming dates for Total Eclipse will be announced soon. But for now, here's the synopsis:

The remnants of mankind make their last stand in Alaska as two of its young pilots will face their destinies. Since 1973, an invasion of aliens known as BETA descended upon Earth, driving human civilization to near extinction. To survive, the humans created the humanoid arms team called the Tactical Surface Fighters, and deployed them to its defense lines throughout the world. However, for over the past 30 years, victory has seemed like an impossible feat to obtain.

Yet, in a brush of fate and destiny, Yui Takamura – a TSF pilot of the Imperial Royal Guards of Japan – and Yuya Bridges – also a TSF pilot of the US Army – both unknowingly head to the same destination, only to have their lives inextricably intertwined, along with the fate of the entire human race…

Still waiting on Anime on Demand's Spring announcements... :?

Male fans don't seem to have the courage to embrace Nobunaga's manly charms otherwise. Shame.

I'm not liking how they are holding back on announcing the regional lock restrictions as that's the most important part! Probably sort of ignoring a lot of the summer shows though for now as I'm way too busy to keep up.

Why is it that his manliest looking incarnation this year comes from...POKÉMON?!

I know 9.9. It's evil.

Just adding the PR Blurb...

Get ready to go back in time, because the comedy The Ambition of Oda Nobuna is the next series to join Crunchyroll's summer anime lineup. The series is directed by Yuuji Kumazawa (episode director on High School of the Dead and Welcome to the NHK), with the voice talents of Kanae Ito (Shugo Chara's Amu Hinamori) and Takuya Eguchi (Gosick's Kazuya Kujo) leading the cast.

Full details regarding territories and streaming dates for Oda Nobuna will be announced soon. For now, check out the official synopsis below:

In Japanese history, Oda Nobunaga’s ambition was to unify all of Japan. While it was Nobunaga who initiated the process, it was his successors—Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu—who completed and fulfilled his dream of a unified Japan. However, in this new anime series we will jump to a parallel universe where Oda Nobuna—not Oda Nobunaga—a female shogun will attempt to achieve the same goal as her male counterpart.

Ordinary high schooler Yoshiharu is sent back in time to the Warring States Period, however not the same timeline that he remembers. There he meets Nobuna Oda—not Nobunaga, Nobuna. In this world, all the famous figureheads and warlords of the era are female! Nobuna teams up with Yoshiharu to help fuel her ambition and quest to rule the world…

Genderswapped historical personages... There's an original idea!

Crunchyroll have started streaming Cardfight! Vanguard Asia Circuit and to the UK. Looks like they're playing catchup with Japan and posting 3 episodes at a time...

When two voice actors from the Cardfight! Vanguard anime (Izumi Kitta and Aimi Terakawa) visited the Crunchyroll booth at our Live Stage at Anime Expo, who could have expected that they also would be announcing a new stream on CR? Alas, this happened, and details follow below…

Cardfight! Vanguard Asia Circuit will begin streaming on Crunchyroll tonight at 6:30 PDT. And to sweeten the deal -- and since the series has already started airing in Japan -- three previous episodes from the back catalog will be launched per week.

Here’s the synopsis:

The card game “Vanguard” has swept the entire world and changed the fate of one boy. His name is Aichi Sendou. To make an impression on Toshiki Kai, a Cardfighter he deeply admires, Aichi begins to play Vanguard and soon becomes caught up in the fun and charm of the game.Through playing Vanguard, Aichi first meets his teammates-to-be, Misaki Tokura and Kamui Katsuragi, then encounters a great number of allies and rivals, his bond to them strengthening as time goes by. At one point, though, the peculiar power known as Psyqualia awakens within Aichi. It’s the ultimate power that allows Aichi to be in control of his fights by putting him in synch with the planet Cray… However, the power is too strong and Aichi becomes addicted to it, thereby losing himself.

Aichi is saved, though, by Kai, Kourin, and the other friends he’s made through playing Vanguard. Aichi gains a variety of experiences and grows tremendously as both a person and Cardfighter. At the national tournament, Aichi’s team defeats AL4, the team led by Ren Suzugamori, Japan’s strongest fighter, and wins the championship. One day not long afterwards, Aichi and his teammates receive an invitation to participate in the Vanguard Fight Circuit. They’ve broken through the shell that is Japan and want to fly through Asia, where the world’s most powerful teams are waiting for them!

Cardfight! Vanguard Asia Circuit will be available in the following territories: US, Canada, UK, Ireland

We know some of you die-hards have literally been begging to see this show made available, so you may now run around your neighborhood screaming "Cardfight! Vanguard Asia Circuit is coming to Crunchyroll!"

Dunno about you, but the word 'Card' in any anime title makes me run for the hills. :p

EDIT: Just to add, that of the titles announced, geographical locations have yet to be confirmed for The Ambition of Oda Nobuna, Sword Art Online, and Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita.

Only Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere has the dreaded "Sorry, due to licensing limitations, videos are unavailable in your region." flag at this time.

Apparently one title remains to be announced.

And nothing of value was lost.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita's first episode is previewing for freeloaders (me) to the UK, and I guess subscribers can watch it too, so looks like only two more left to confirm.

Incidentally Crunchyroll have added anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, for US and Canadian viewers, but it hasn't filled that final TBD box yet.

What is it with Japan's obsession with turning Oda Nobunaga into a girl?!

A better question would be "What's Japan's obsession with Oda Nobunaga?"
He unified their country, or put in most of the groundwork to have his lackeys finish the job. It's just them being patriotic. Like us using a WWII setting.

We don't tend to get very patriotic for Edward I or Cromwell though - the Scots and Irish respectively don't tend to hold much love for them. I guess the Japanese did a better job of reconciling (or simply destroying) their regional differences so they can celebrate the people who unified them, rather than having some people hate them and others being left with a vague feeling of inherited guilt about what they did.

I personally think it's a big shame we don't dredge up history a bit more here. We have such a cool barbaric past, yet outside of the occasional WW2 film or stuffy Jane Austen retread we don't get to see it drawn from nearly enough. And why are most historical shows lately actually redone in a modern setting or without even the smallest nods to actual events?

I particularly enjoy anime about British historical figures and wish we celebrated them just a little bit more ourselves too.
