UK Anime Distributor Crunchyroll/Funimation/Manga UK Discussion Thread

Whilest Crunchyroll revealed their US home video slate for July last week, they did not yet reveal any upcoming UK releases apart from Shangri-la Frontier S2 next week?

Crunchyroll UK's announcements are so sporadic and sometimes multiple months at a time I never know when to expect them, but also have been wondering about this since everything announced is about to be released and it's about to be May with nothing announced yet.

That said, Crunchyroll US has no releases for the month of May, so maybe Crunchyroll UK will be the same.

If I didn't overlook something, this is all of the US announced titles for the next three months:
  • 23 June - I Left My A-Rank Party to Help My Former Students Reach the Dungeon Depths!
  • 30 June - Dr. Stone Science Future Part 1
  • 14 July - Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3
  • 14 July - Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon Season 2
  • 14 July - The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You Season 2
  • 27 July - The Apothecary Diaries Season 1 steelbook
I would think most of those will get UK releases, aside from the steelbook perhaps.

Headhunted to Another World: From Salaryman to Big Four! was released in the US in January; I guess that one is likely being skipped for the UK?

A-Rank Party and Dr. Stone have recently been BBFC’d with 12 and 15 certs respectively so they’re on the way at some point. No word on any of the others you mentioned though.

Don't get me started on their lack of any care to getting the Dragon Ball Daima dub to Europe.

The dub released in the USA in January 2025, and we don't even have it on Netflix or, heck, even BBC iPlayer.

That's more likely to be TOEI Europe who are notoriously bad at their job of licencing their properties in Europe. Though they have improved a bit in the last couple of years.

Dragon Ball Daima is likely not related to Crunchyroll

Not a single European dub has yet surfaced, albeid there are rumors some exist already, and even German TV listings for May have been pulled without official explaination.

As usual with the AoL Deal of the week, I try to avoid the shipping charges by finding something else for the basket. Usually I go for forthcoming titles that I'm bound to buy anyway.

For the first time, I clicked on the Crunchyroll pre-orders... and there's nothing there. No forthcoming UK Crunchyroll titles. And it's not just an Anime on Line thing. Nothing at Amazon either, or Anime Limited or Rarewaves

Shangri-La Frontier S2 was released on Monday and that's it. No more Crunchyroll listed on the retailer schedules

It's so dire for Crunchyroll titles, I assume we'll get some new announcements soon following the U.S. slate recently but I imagine it'll be only a couple of titles and I bet one will be The Apothecary Diaries S1 steelbook re-release which does look nice but isn't a new title. Along with that I'd say probably Dr. Stone S4 Part 1 and maybe Dragon Ball Daima (whatever is going on with that). Yet to see who will release Re:Zero S3 over here and from memory the only other titles upcoming in the U.S. are random isekai's I don't remember the names of.

EDIT: I forgot about 100 GF's S2.

Do we think Reze Arc will at least get a home entertainment release? I guess CR ceding control of AKIRA was a bigger indicator of their backing away from physical media in the UK.

As @Lucky_Deity wrote, Crunchyroll US's recent slates have been very small (and depressing) but in addition, they are not releasing anything in May, and with those smaller slates I believe the UK branch has released most of what the US has already released so there wouldn't be much they could release this month without any US releases to draw from.

So hopefully there will be some UK announcements soon and there will be something released in June and after.

I wanted Headhunted to Another World but as that came out in January in the US, and the UK releases generally aren't that many months behind, I assume now that one isn't coming over and I should probably just buy the US version. Dr Stone S4 episodes 1-12 and I Left My a-Rank Party to Help My Former Students Reach the Dungeon Depths have been rated by the BBFC for home video, so those should definitely be coming. Maybe Reborn as a Vending Machine S2 will make it over along with 100 Girlfriends since the first seasons did and with the smaller US release slates now I would think they'd release practically everything they can for the UK as well, with the obvious exception of things they don't have rights to for the territory.

That's really idiotic from a business point of view when you consider that physical releases are much more profitable per unit than streaming subscriptions plus they're just pissing off fans who want to and will buy bd and dvd sets.

They are a business at the end of the day, if predicted sales figures for a physical release don't cover the costs (getting it checked by the BBFC etc) then sadly they won't release niche titles. Or if they do release those sorts of titles it will be at a much higher price that the casual viewer will consider too high (i.e. £45 for a 12 episode series, similar to the olden days when DVDs would have 3/4 episodes and cost £10-£15).

Similar to movie & music, these days people are pushed more towards the streaming side, the concept of "You will own nothing and be Happy". Just look at the typical supermarket, 10 or so years ago they would carry various CDs & DVD/Blu-Ray titles, these days it's either 2nd hand titles or nothing.

Is there any possibility of Crunchyroll UK just releasing stuff that wasn't released in the US to fill out their slate?
It is expected that Crunchyroll will release Sailor Moon Steelbooks in Fall in UK, France, Germany & Australia.
Also I hope that Crunchyroll UK & Australia will fill open gaps within Haikyu series and maybe either CR or Anime Ltd will release SAO Progressive.

Regarding missing announcements:
A few weeks ago Crunchyroll posted a job offer for an Operations Manager for Germany & UK Blu-ray branches:
This has been delisted, hopefully because they found a suitable candidate but it wouldn't be a surprise if things might take a while to get rolling.
