Rui said:2. It sounds to me like the power outage led Windows to somehow screw up its magical files which make it know how to start up somewhere. It's probably really easy to fix but requires some confidence/knowledge and/or a bootable disk of some kind.

Kireek said:Ahhhhhhhhh stuff it i think i need a boot disc now, I was going to try what u said last night but now it just goes straight to the grey pacard bell screen (with F2 BIOS option at the bottom) but then after about 5 seconds of turning the pc on it just all locks up.........would a boot disc still sort this out? (or some system restore disc)
Kireek said:Oo thats an unexpected offer........I live in Nottingham (which is East midlands but probebly to far away) thx for the offer anyway.
I cant even get into bios now..........i dont think i changed any of the values when i last went into it. It just comes up with F2 F12 options at the bottem of the screen and just wont let me in it would seem the pc just locks up on me I can tell the keyboard works for the first 5 seconds cuz i can see the caps lock on/off light flick when i press it.

chaos said:Hey Kireek, do you hear beeps of any sort? If you do hear beeps your computer didn't do before, you might have some sort of hardware failure. As you were seeing the initial screen for safe mode, I'm assuming your HD is ok - can't tell for sure without checking it myself, but you can check if it does makes noise when you turn it on. (also assuming you know which kind of noise to expect as well). As you see the option to enter the BIOS of the machine, I hardly doubt that the mother board is fried.
Do you know the maker / model of the stuff you got?
Usually some dell, HP's , etc used to have boot disks for free for customers, you could just go to their websites and download them as well as troubleshooting instructions.
Well it makes 2 clicking sounds when i first turn it on....the keyboard works for 5 seconds but it wont let me enter bios.......some1 did give a boot disc yesterday but its still stuck on that same screen (might have been wrong disc) motherboard or anything else aint fried i know that, Look s like im going to have to get some1 to have a look inside.
Hope this helps.
I've plugged in the PCI-E cable, but that hasn't made a difference. I'm assuming it's a problem with the mobo or video card. My hunch tells me it's not the RAM, but I'll check it too.chaos said:some graphic cards needs to extra power, so they have those little connectors like the cd / dvd drives have. check if that is not the case of you graphic card as well.
(Assuming cpu and monitor are ok)
does the video card have any leds? can you see wht happens to the card when you turn the pc on?Maxon said:I've plugged in the PCI-E cable, but that hasn't made a difference. Tachi- said:Urgh ending this now. its not the Video card, if its not booting up properly theres a problem with the start up procedure, have you gone into the Bios and changed the power management
Bit difficult to go into the BIOS.Maxon said:So I've been having problems with my build. I've got the RAM, mobo and CPU set up. I have the graphics card plugged in. When I hook up a monitor to get the POST, my monitor remains on standby and nothing comes up on the screen.
No, it's OEM. It does seem to be inserted properly because the card's fan spins when I switch it on. I'm going to put my old card in tomorrow to see if anything happens.chaos said:does the video card have any leds? can you see wht happens to the card when you turn the pc on?Maxon said:I've plugged in the PCI-E cable, but that hasn't made a difference. actually, there are two people with problems here. One is either the video card or cables, the other seems to have some sort of hardware problem Anyway, I'm not trying to help, Im only here to confuse people..Tachi- said:Urgh ending this now. its not the Video card, if its not booting up properly theres a problem with the start up procedure, have you gone into the Bios and changed the power management - then change the tab "incase of power failure" turn it off, turn off the pc, turn it back on and then it SHOULD be fine, that simple thing has fixed so many problems before. IF the Bios still wont open then a boot up disk is required. all you have to do is check that you've looked after everything properly. have you put hardware in anti static bags? have you discharged your static before touching any hardware? May you of accidentally touched the green areas on the motherboard or videocard/ram? If its your first built there's bound to be alot of problems that face you (hell, they get us all ),
