Code Geass unpacked

Now I feel like a sucker for also having bought a stand-along Zone B Blu-ray player. ^^;

That just makes you doubly dedicated :)

I have a second player in a laptop but it's never actually been used. Maybe if the UK suddenly floods the market with a glut of amazing blu-rays nobody else has...

I'll probably get a blu-ray player in a computer & set it to zone A. So long as the comp has HDMI outputn or that beefy monitor cable output I don't know the name of, I can put it out onto my 46" TV.

Truth is, we just don't know until anyone from the industry cares to fill us in on the details. We've had hints from Andrew about Beez having a BD 'schedule' for a long time but nothing concrete yet - I don't know if Expo is likely to yield any results or not.
We had Freedom, gunbuster x diebuster in blu ray from Beez (I know I have them at least) and Afro samurai from Manga

I can only guess that these didn't do very well to give both companies a reason for more.
Freedom and Gunbuster were great, I'm really glad they were released as I would love to see more just like that, but they were quite pricey collectors boxes to enter the market with. I doubt two boxed sets costing around £40 and £65 would give a clear impression of the amount of sales they could hope to make from a standard release.

Manga seem to be continuing slowly, and I'm sure Andrew's comments about a BD release schedule came a while after Beez released Gunbuster & Freedom. Manga's Shigurui set was nice and I hope we'll see more like that as well, but it annoys me when things come out with the option of a DVD special edition with slipcase and artcards (Origin, GitS 2.0, the original release of Innocence) but no special edition for the BD. :(

On a related note, anyone notice how the remastered original Star Trek comes in a nice metal tin on DVD, but in a plastic brick on BD? WTF is that all about? It's like you can choose between picture quality or packaging quality...

Not noticed it specifically about Star Trek, since, even if its a brick, its a pretty nice looking brick but I have spotted it quite a lot when I browse Amazon every now and then for the latest BDs. It's ridiculous... It's even more annoying if its a normal case with good cover-art, then it's spat all over with blue text saying: "HIGH DEFINITION, LOSSLESS AUDIO, BUY ME!"

Code Geass looks excellent on DVD. Even on my 1440x900 monitor, it looks lovely. Its use of bright colours hide any grain issues for the most part.

Since there's no sleeve/cover to go around the book, that's far from impressive. Considering it's possible to import the Phoenix box set, complete with a thin outer box and THREE book-like cases, I don't see value for money. I assumed it would be a sturdy art box with three cases, going on the price.

...Not that my opinion counts - I own the three R1 releases. With those you got indicidual cases x2 per release and a slipcover. It would've worked out at £18-20 x3 to import, though.

Yeah... if I pay that kind of price for 13 episodes I expect something more.
Don't get me wrong... the packaging looks fine, but thats all it is

I think I'll wait till it goes down significantly in price, even though I thought the first series of code geass was awesome.
