Claymore Sneak Peek

Manga have sent UKA (and seemingly not AUKN) the first 60 seconds of Claymore. I take no responsibility for hurting the feelings of Jerome, who said he'd answer questions and then ran away as I attempted to befriend him.

The video is rather rubbish. It just shows that Claymore looks nice and has some gore. It also gives you, the newbs, a raste of the excellent Claymore soundtrack.

The most interesting thing for me about the UKA report isn't the video; it's the number of episodes UKA say the first set will have - ten. It makes sense - 10 + 8 + 8 - 26 - but I had it in my head the first set would have only eight episodes for some reason. Even better value for my £8.99!

Annnnyway. This is a better trailer (it's actually an AMY but w/e):

I'm really impressed by the episode count per DVD, too. It means we'll have the entire series in 3 releases and at a relatively small price. This is surely the only way anime can be released from now on! :]

Nice find. I'm still not planning on getting it but the music was fun and I like a bit of coolness and gore when I get in for the evening.

Interesting to hear about the episode count. I'd been seeing it as a step backwards when compared to their half season sets (though obviously it's going to sell rather well compared to some of the more niche series) but the generous first volume runtime and slightly lower initial price than things like Ghost Hunt might pull a few extra people in after all. £19.99 RRP (with online discounts) and a high episode count is about the sweet spot for getting me to impulse buy something new.

Oh, nice 10 episodes for the first set, I thought it was 8 in the first one. Trailer wasn't really much to look at, like you said, preferred your Video.

The only reason Bleach and Naruto have such high episode counts per release is because of the endless length of both. There was never any chance of the likes of Claymore getting 2 x 13 episode releases.

xxxholic is an exception to the rule because it isn't very good. It isn't exactly unpopular - it's a CLAMP series - but it doesn't have the pulling power of darker titles, like Claymore. As you mentioned, popularity plays a part.

It'd be rather dumb to complain about a 26 episode getting released in three segments when we've had to put up with (and still do) anime getting released in six segments for the same price. Whether it's two or three releases, it's good either way.

I forget if DtB has 25 or 26 episodes (I think 25) but it'd be cool if the first release of that also includes ten episodes.

Yeah, I don't mind three when it's pitched at a decent price and the episodes are spread reasonably. I've just been spoiled by the convenience of xxxHolic/Jyu-Oh-Sei/Ghost Hunt/Ouran in quick fire succession ;)

None of those is likely to do as well as Claymore though over here so it's definitely one to watch to see how these things unfold in future.

Clamore getting released in three sets is great news and value, but getting ten episodes with the first set is even better. I really can't wait for this to be released.

Enjoyed the video also.

Claymore

Manga Entertainment posted the first trailer for their Claymore release.

<i>"Based on the dark fantasy manga written and illustrated by Norihiro Yagi (Undeadman), produced by Madhouse Studios and directed by former actor and live-action movie director Hiroyuki Tanaka (Hard Luck Hero), CLAYMORE - VOLUMES 1 AND 2 come to DVD as a two-disc collection featuring the first 10 episodes of the 26-episode series.
Remaining faithful to the style and spirit of the original source material, this anime adaptation of Yagi's grim and violent fantasy saga is an intelligently scripted, blood-drenched action series likely to appeal to fans of "Berserk" and "Hellsing"."</i>

The extras confirmed for Claymore Volumes 1 & 2 are:
- Episode 1 Commentary
- Cast Auditions
- Textless Opening: Raison D'etre
- Textless Closing: Danzai No Hana
- Interview with Director Hiroyuki Tanaka
- Episode 8 commentary
The DVD's are out on the 8th of June and the RRP is &pound;19.99.

Starting on the 8th, we will have the Claymore themed week and you can also expect some more surprises closer to the release date.

They beat me to it, not that it's difficult to do so :D

Merged the threads and linked yours to the news report.

WARNING: This trailer contains extremely graphic scenes of violence and is only suitable for those aged 18+.

lol love UKA over exaggerating on this. women cuts of head, blood pours out....more gore please :p

The best thing about this set is that, as well as containing ten episodes, it also holds the best part of the series. Like Berserk (the manga), Claymore starts in the present with monster slaying and then jumps into the past to flesh out the story. The flashback arc is far shorter than the Berserk one, which made up 24/25 of the Berserk anime, but it still lasts for a lengthy four episode period (5-8 iirc). I got really into the anime once the flashback story kicked in.

The most epic, OMGWTF head removal is hidden within the flashback story. 'Tis good.

It's just too bad there really isn't much else to look forward to on the UK anime front besides Death Note, Claymore and DtB. I'm getting tired of posting to express my happiness about those three titles and not having anything else of interest to mention. I hope the sales of these double disc sets ends up being good enough to make Manga license more series and release them in the same way.

Also, one last thing: it's great to see yet another interview included on one of Manga's double disc releases. The praise should go to Japanese studio behind it for the Japanese stff interviews and whoever gets interviews with the US staff but I don't care - I'm just happy these cheap Manga releases aren't low quality or the sort of bare bones releases I'd gotten used toseeing on the single disc front.

On the extras front, the cast auditions is something new to me, so I think it should be interesting... or boring. I didn't make up my mind on that one yet.

This is kind of off topic but I've just checked on Amazon to see how many episodes per disc the first two DtB volumes contain. The answer? Five each, so the first DtB set will also be a ten episode affair. There aren't any extras listed on Amazon for either volume, though...

FYI, you guys can still order DtB for £8.99 at HMV. Claymore was also £8.99 at one point but the price went up, the best pre-order price right now being £12ish.

I thought Claymore was really crappy until the flasback arc. I'll definately be buying but probably won't watch it straight away, the dub is pretty good too.

I can't wait for this release to come out as it is one of my favourite anime's out there.Fair dues to Manga ent. for bringing out the series the way they are(basically more episodes per disc). My one abiding hope is that they may someday bring out a second series, the last two episodes of the anime broke away from the manga story entirely(which made some fans of the manga unhappy, but hey can't please everyone)
The first 11 volumes by Norihiro Yagi formed the base for the bulk of the anime ,since then he has made four more volumes and is still ongoing ,so here's hoping for that second season. :D
As for my favourite episodes they are 9,10 & 11 which deal with Clare and three other claymores Miria,Deneve & Helen fighting a much more powerful enemy.

Wasn't going to bother with Claymore since it was a series I felt tailed off at the end. 10 episodes a disc is hard to refuse though (particularly since that covers some of the best episodes in the series).

Not exactly trailers when the videos are just random scenes from the series. :)

Looking forward to the release of volume 1 even more now that I've gotten into the manga.
