Celebrity Death Match: Manga Style

In homage to the great institution that is MTV, I have created this fun thread with some of my favourite characters for you to play with.

Who do you think will win and why?

1. Yuki v Kyo (Fruits Basket)
2. Naruto v Sasuke (Naruto)
3. Nana. O (Nana) v Nana (Othello)
4. Ryoki v Azusa (Hot Gimmick)
5. Phantom Theif Dark v Krad (D N Angel)

You are welcome to post your own suggestions below. Feel free to pitch heroes v villians and best friends against each other. Please put the name of the manga where the characters come from in brackets as not everyone will know who they are.

I will post my own verdict later on (and it's not as obvious as you may think!) But before then, I want to know what you think.

Have fun,

Furuba death match

To Ramadahl

The Yuki v Kyo thing - I know, i know, Yuki ALWAYS wins. But wouldn't it be nice (in some parallel universe) if Kyo could finally knock that rat on his tail. I know the manga will draw to a close in a year's time, so just maybe Kyo still has a chance yet to join the Zodiac.

I don't want Kyo to end up in confinement, even if that means Yuki loses.

That Furuba thing

To Ramadahl & Rukario

How do you both think the series will end? I know Akito made a bet with Kyo, but what about Yuki? Will there be consequences for Yuki if he loses?

Also, in volume 13, who do you think that mysterious man inside the Sohma main house is - the one Kureno spoke to? My conspiracy theory is that the Cat is not really dead at all. (Thats what i love about Furuba - soon as one mystery closes, another one pops out of nowhere.)

And what's the deal with Shigure? I'm starting to think Akito isn't the real baddie in the family.

Haha, I'd guess that the ending is going to be "Tohru fixes everything and they all live happily ever after", but as to how they get there I have no idea.
At the moment (v13) there're lots of questions but not many answers - things are being hinted at, but nothing is being revealed. I don't know who the "mysterious man" speaking to Kureno was, but I wouldn't say it's the cat - just because it goes against what we already know, that new Zodiac members aren't born until the older ones die. Still, who knows?
And yes, something's definitely up with Shigure, he's working on something for his own ends - but until we know what his "dream" was (can't remember the volume...) it doesn't look like we're going to find out what.

One totally bizarre possibility that occurred to me was that Tohru could take over Akitos place as 'God' in the zodiac and let the other members do what they wanted... But there's nothing to back that up whatsoever.

How about:
Kite vs Tri-Edge (both .hack)
Jo (Burst Angels) vs Motoko (Ghost In The Shell)
Nirvash/TheEnd (Eureka 7) vs Strike/Aegis (Gundam Seed)

And for the main event...
Excel (Excel Saga) vs Dokuro (Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan)

As for the Keitaro/Tenchi match... I dunno actually... Keitaro is invincible, but may cave in to the pain that Tenchi could deliver... But then again, invincibility allows you to keep kicking the c*** out of your opponent. Tough to call.

This has somehow turned into a Furuba thread, but nevermind.

Ramadahl, so what exactly was your bizzare theory anyway?

I'm not entirely sure it will all end happily. Her characters go through a lot of suffering, and vol 13, did kindof hint at dreams that don't come true. There was a lot of happiness and sadness. But Takaya's storytelling style is rather unique. She does drop hints along the way, but we dont really know the score until she tells us.

Ah, yes, I think you are right about the Cat thing. As far as the ending goes, I imagine Shishou will stand up against Akito, protecting Kyo. Remeber, none of the Zodiac has the will to oppose him. Kyo's dad will turn up siding with the Sohma's when they are preparing Kyo for confinement. And as for Shigure, well I remember, Hatori saying something along the lines that he won't stand by him when the time comes, but he won't be his enemy either, or words to that effect. So who knows what that means...

Either way, I'm sure it will be an amazing ending!

You can highlight the blanked-out text to read it. :p I made it a spoiler as it relates to Akito, but people who've read vol 12 will know it already.

It's true that there's a lot of sad scenes, but I kinda feel that the tone of the manga still seems hopeful and optimistic.

I'd say Shishou will stand against Akito as well, but when Shishou was saying that he didn't sound as if he expected to be able to do much about Kyo's fate... And I don't know about Kyo's father suddenly siding with him, but I'd imagine they will at least resolve their issues at some point in the future (similar to Yuki and his mother did recently)

I'm looking forward to it.

Even more Furubaness

Hiya Ramadahl

Okay, I finally read the spoiler thing - so I now know what you're talking about! That's interesting, somehow I missed the bit about Shishou not being able to do much about Kyo's fate - must re-read. One thing for sure - it will be a very dramatic ending.

As much as I will miss Furuba, I'm interested to see what Takaya will do next. Furuba is one hell of a legacy to leave this world.

How did you get into the series and when did you realise you were a fan?

It was more the way he said it rather than anything that was actaully said, but thinking about it - If Akito ordered Kyo to live in confinement what could Shishou reralistically do to prevent it? It seems like much as he want to help Kyo he doesn't know how, so all he can do is stand by him.
