British teacher murdered by Japanese hentai collector?

First off, my heart goes out to the murdered lady's family, no one would want their daughter to leave this world that way.

Secondly, I can understand how the media could potentially blow this story out of proportion into a culture hating exercise. Ultimately, negative stories sell papers but I'm hoping this doesn't happen, it would be a real shame. Since I got in to manga and anime, I have become interested into all aspects of japanese culture and that has undoubtably been a good thing for me. I can only wonder what kind of effect this will have on the expat community living in japan and those who may be thinking of teaching english there.
 
People who commit these sorts of crimes are (in my opinion) disturbed prior to any external influences. The manga itself may have triggered his demons into committing the murder, but the manga itself can't be blamed.

How many times have we heard of various films or even music lyrics supposedly causing people to commit murder? I have matched many horror films and listened to death metal, but I have never entertained the though of killing someone. I believe this is because I am mentally stable. :lol: 8)

There are many people who confuse fact and fiction - there are many deluded fans of soap operas etc who believe that the characters are real people. Some guys just take it to the extreme.

I sincerely hope that Manga/Anime is not censored or driven underground because of this...however, I fear that there will be some sort of backlash...
 
wll I seen the paper and there were various mangas in one image. I spotted Azumanga diaoh. There were no hentai mangas on the image I think.

There not really bothered about the hentai manga bit actully it wasn't even metioned i think there more bothered about the fact that she was killed and how devestated her dad is.

The worst thing that caught happen is hentai rape get banned in japan.
 
i was so shocked to read it and the picture that i looked at of the patential killer, he looked like a total weirdo.
it still hasnt put me off living over there one day, it happens all the time in england. it's sad and we wish it didnt happen but that just the way things are. :(

I'm glad they didn't throw anime into it just because it might be good to print a reason why he did it and mainly focused more the after effects and the actual facts of the crime rather than rampant speculation.
 
I think we're overreacting here, to be honest. The only paper to have made any serious mention of the Manga connection is a free newspaper only distributed in London, and even then it wasn't the real focus of the article despite the headline. None of the major national newspapers have made any mention of the Manga connection - not even the Daily Mail. No doubt the Mail or some other newspaper will bring up the connection eventually but seeing as none of the Manga in question is available in this country there's a possibility that they won't.
 
I hope your right but these things have a tendency to snowball. Also many large stories start in locals then go national the next day. I will have my eyes open as everyone else should to see if anything does happen.

If it doesnt, good. If it does... oh dear.

I know Japan isn't as strong on censorship as us but that just makes them sound like they have hentai rape delivered to their door rather than a newspaper in the morning.

Generalization like this is irritating to say the least.
 
How can they blame manga and hentai for what has happened. Just because some sick bastered decided to kill someone. Did they ever thinck something could of happened to him and he just snapped. They look at all the things that have nothing to do with the murder
 
I think that everybody seems to be missing the point that she was so bloody stupid enough to go into his appartment with him. How can anyone by so naive!?!

Just looking at the bloke you can tell he's nothing but a chinpila or some other twat.

You can say so much about how every society has it's psycho's but you also have to say something about some "victims" being so amazingly brainless.

The media will always use stuff like films/music/anime/etc... as the root of all evil. I'm sure they do have some influence, maybe a lot, on people. But only people who are already a few cards short of a pack.


P.S.- the murder happened in my home town, Ichikawa, and not far away from the house of one of my best friends.
