Beez licenses Durara

I'll definitely be buying their Durarara, and kudos to them for being more proactive about getting stuff to us here in a timely manner! Subtitled only doesn't bother me at all, and I think we'll see more of it going forwards with the piracy rates making dubs less profitable on less mass marketable shows in the US - unless people start voting for dubs with their wallets again. Glad to see Beez is willing to give it a try, and with a series new enough for the sales figures to mean something too.

Grabbed Unicorn finally from their stand today in my brief Expo flying visit so definitely on a Beez kick at the moment.

Looking what ukanime put up on their twitter it says that the US release of Durarara will also be sub only!
So I don't think anyone is planning to give it a dub.

Did Sentai Filmworks license it?
I would have been sure that FUNimation would have licensed it

Lack of a dub for Durara kinda concerns me. English dubs are part of the fun for me.

Not that it dents my enthusiasm for the show one bit, mind!

For me the bottom line (usually) is all subs are at least decent, only a few dubs are great (or rather good enough to prefer over sub) so sub only doesn't bother me too much. It's not like I've watched the dub and will miss it not being there like say "Appleseed Ex Machina" (though that was missing the japanese dub, on regular dvd anyways)

Well I was on Anime News Network and all the Americans on there don't think FUNi are going to pick it up if Beez have it.
It also said in the article that Beez would consider putting a dub in at a later date if one becomes available.

I guess it depends on how it sales so in this case it might be better for everyone to buy it and wait for a dub to come out and see if Beez are willing to exchange DVDs so we who brought it can get the dub aswell. It might be along shot but to be honest I don't know why people aren't just happy to have the chance to own the anime, its better then not getting it at all and I'm sure it won't cost a lot. Hopefully.

Speaking for myself, I'll be more than pleased to snap up the DVDs and enjoy them as is.

It's just... well. Dubs are part of the fun for me, like I said. Even when they're not great dubs, they're amusing. I'm one of those folks who would miss 'em if they weren't around.

Durarara being put out without a dub makes me wonder if Beez are perhaps testing the water with subs-only anime. I wonder if it'll become a trend.

Maybe because some people enjoy dubs? Not that I've seen much fanrage over this... yet.

Beez have already released sub-only DVDs: Gunbuster 2 and the Gundam movies. What might be in their favour is that they put French subtitles on their discs, and France is supposedly the biggest manga/anime market outside Japan.

A fanrage? Really? I don't think people would go that far, its not like they're stopping dubs altogether, then I think even I would get annoyed. I'm just trying to be positive, its a shame we don't have the money to dub anime ourselves.

Do we need money? My laptop has a built-in microphone, I'm sure other people's do as well. If we buy the DVDs, record the lines of a single character and then someone puts them all together and uploads the finished result in mp3 format, you could have a working dub track for nothing. Simply mute the volume on your TV and play the sound file instead.

Now then, which Durara character would suit a Yorkshire accent?

Manga would never finance the dub, there's far too much stuff in the show to do much in the way of 15ing.

Funnily enough not long ago MANGA UK did fund a English DUB for 2nd Ghost in the Shell Movie when the licenses owner in USA didn't bother to put one on their region 1 release for a reason I can't understand.

Unlikely this would happen again though as Gits 2 was massive mainstream movie shifting 35,000+ units for MANGA UK and I can't such a massive release ever again be released in USA without a DUB.

They also financed the dub for Millennium Actress, and then put dubtitles on the disc...
