If you're picking up UK Blu-rays or DVDs, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on the BBFC ratings - they’re a great shorthand for flagging potentially problematic content. For instance, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc are clearly not for kids given the gore and violence. These ratings are super helpful for spotting sexual themes, trauma, or psychological intensity before you commit to a purchase. It definitely helps avoid any awkward surprises when you're hosting a watch party or showing something to the family.

The idea that the Dragon Maid movie has got a 15 rating due to "Strong violence and injury detail" is making me laugh. What on earth has happened to the comfy slice of life comedy about found family?

The first season was rated 12 due to moderate sex references, language and brief bloody images, while the second season was rated 15 due to strong sex references and brief sexual threat.

All the episodes are 12s at most other than episode 5, BBFC automatically bumps to a 15s for anything to do with eating disorders.

Looks like this won't be able to be updated as easily anymore, the recently rated page which was previously only hidden has now been removed from the BBFC website.

The BBFC app has a “rated this week” section, but it’s only semi-helpful since it will show you their four most recently rated titles, then clicking “View more” redirects you to the page on the website that seemingly no longer exists. Anyway, the app was able to just tell me that “Angel’s Egg” has been classified 12A (cinema) and 12 (physical media + streaming) for “upsetting scenes” both via All The Anime.

Occasional scenes of threat include sight of bladed weapons and of skeletal animal remains. There is an unsettling tone throughout and a jump scare occurs during a darkly lit scene.
Suicide and Self-Harm
A person takes their own life; this occurs within a fantastical context and is accompanied by upsetting scenes centred around grief.
100% a 12s for the suicide, that always bumps the rating.
