Thanks for that.
I've got a tatty DVD of Brother, so upgrading that would be nice.
I wouldn't claim it's Kitano's best but if you just want to see him do gangster stuff then it hits the right spots.

I've not seen The Adventurers so that'll be nice.

Third Window Films has mentioned they have plans to release an Nikkatsu Roman Porno Angel Guts box set next year. I presume the films included are Angel Guts: High School Co-Ed (女高生 天使のはらわた), Angel Guts: Red Classroom (天使のはらわた 赤い教室), Angel Guts: Nami (天使のはらわた 名美), Angel Guts: Red Porno (天使のはらわた 赤い淫画), and Angel Guts: Red Vertigo (天使のはらわた 赤い眩),

Currently their upcoming Takashi Ishii box set contains four films made during a two year time period in his career (1992-1994) which are Original Sin (死んでもいい), A Night in Nude (ヌードの夜), Angel Guts: Red Flash (天使のはらわた 赤い閃光) & Alone in the Night (夜がまた来る).

Also Gakuryu Ishii (Sogo Ishii)'s The Box Man (箱男) will be the next title that will be up for pre-orders pretty soon.

In terms of other recaps, TWF does have a Kaizo Hayashi box set in the works but the titles are not yet revealed.

On a different note, I've compiled all of the latest upcoming UK releases between April to June on my blog, since it can be pretty difficult to track where everything is at (did you know Zebraman 1 & 2 are now arriving a month early?).

Much appreciated updates, as always. That Angel Guts boxset sounds great and as someone who loved the novel, I'll definitely be getting The Box Man on BD.

Great to hear that the two Zebraman films are coming earlier too - makes Switch 2 month a bit cheaper.

I’ve been absent for a few months, just wondering if anyone picked up Godzilla vs Biollante 4k and if it came with a slipcase like the OG Godzilla 4k does. The copy I saw in store in HMV didn’t have one and I wanted to check it wasn’t a mistake. Ideally I’d like them to match on the shelf but if they don’t, well they don’t. Thought I’d check first though.

There's no slipcase on mine.

Coming Soon from 88 Films! The Japanese title has been revealed already thanks to the BBFC but the Chinese title is a surprise!

These are The Cat (衛斯理之老貓), 1992 film by Lam Ngai Kai (Erotic Ghost Story, Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky) as part of the 88 Asia range (not a Category III film considering the director's previous works).

And Detonation! Violent Riders (爆発! 暴走族), 1975 film by Teruo Ishii (Abashiri Prison, Horrors of Malformed Men) as part of the Japanarchy range.

Worth noting that Well Go USA are releasing The Prosecutor on 4K Ultra HD (with Cantonese Dolby Atmos & Dolby Vision HDR) for those interested. I should look into how many Well Go have released on 4K at this point since they tend to put more of the modern Chinese films on the format than anyone else.

Arrow have licensed the Golden Princess library from Shout for UK release!

Arrow Films plan to mount theatrical re-releases of select titles such as Hard Boiled and The Killer. Last month, Shout! revealed it has collaborated with the Hong Kong Film Archives to remaster several titles in 4K UHD, scanned from the original camera negatives.

Arrow said the deal would mark the first time some of the films had been released in the UK with others receiving fresh releases after years of being out of physical circulation. The firm is targeting 2026 for the first wave of titles, released through its Arrow Video label.

It's been pretty much a given it was Arrow who had them for a few weeks now but really glad they've actually announced it before Shout start putting out their releases!
People don't mind waiting as long as you actually tell them there's a release coming in their country 🙂
and I'll go as far as saying I'd expect Arrow's release to be a superior product than Shout's....

There's a lot of films in that catalog and Arrow are known for their box sets so I'm hoping that will be the model for a majority of the titles to make it easier for cost and shelf space. As much as I like 88 and Eureka, those two would have doubled or tripled the space needed to get them all.

Disclaimer: I have zero insider knowledge or any such thing, so this is just my speculation.

My expectation is that Arrow will release the highest profile films like Hard Boiled and The Killer individually, and initially in hardbox LEs, as with their current releases of the Sergio Leone westerns, to be followed by later standard editions as usual for them. For films that have actual related sequels, like A Better Tomorrow, box sets of the complete series seem likely, with possibly also separate versions like they did with Conan. Finally, in that library of 157 titles, there surely are ones that aren't going to sell well on their own--whatever quality of the films may be, there are certain genres that don't have wide appeal outside of Asia, so I would envision those getting releases in larger boxes, similar to the Shawscope sets.

Personally I hope for something like that, and for any boxes to not contain an overly large number of films. I dislike having to buy things I'm not particularly interested or something I specifically do not want, in to get something I do want. I never even considered buying the Shawscope sets for that reason.

I got a warning today to remember to do due diligence when buying a film.
I just watched The Adventurers starring Andy Lau.
I enjoyed it but it won't be high on my favourite HK action films.
Turns out it's my first Ringo Lam movie. Full of action and betrayal but I've seen it done better.

I did wonder for a while when Jean Reno was going to appear.
I thought I was getting The Adventurers starring Andy Lau.
I suppose I can't complain as I did. 🙄

You thought you were getting The Adventurers starring Andy Lau but instead recieved The Adventurers starring Andy Lau!! 😂

I also fell into this trap of thinking it was the 2017 The Adventurers when it's actually the 1995 version.

Although, to take the positive approach, I've watched a film. Enjoyed it and now (when I find it) I've got another film to look forward to.😃

And I have just realised that I'd like to rewatch A Better Tomorrow 2.

ABT 2 will 90% likely come in a trilogy box set from Arrow going by what Frank Djeng has said. 🤞
