Well my family and friends know and all that but I only really talk about it with my cousin , but she is not that into it she only really likes stuff that makes her laugh (I got her addicted to OHSHC XD) but other than that imma all aloneeeee =/ so every now and then I just need to explain to everyone about the anime/manga that I love and I end up rambling on and scarying my family with the extent of my obsession xD

Like your hair? So... it's about a foot long, spiky, and turns blonde when you power up? ^^;

That's so cool! :D

Pretty much all of my friends know that I like anime, but they do regularly make fun of it! :D I did manage to get one of my close friends to watch FMA and she loved it, though! Didn't turn her into an anime fan, however!

I don't hide it i just don't shout it from roof tops either

Same here, although I walk around with a GITS:SAC bag, and watch anime on my PSP in work at lunch time. So I suppose you could say I 'whisper' it. :D

As for everyday people having the wrong idea about anime, Manga Ent have a hell of a lot to apologise for. :x

There have been a couple of occasions in work recently where I was chatting to people about anime, ( who had the afformentioned anime=perverse opinion ), which ended up with me loaning them my copy of the first disk of Abenobashi Shopping Arcade, ( probably the least offensive, easy to get into all rounder that I own ), and them totally loveing it, so much so they were chomping at the bit to borrow the rest of the disks, even their kids were watching it. OK, they haven't become die hard anime freaks overnight, but they no longer think like they used to. :D

Yeah, but they've been putting an effort into their more recent releases, so I've forgiven them somewhat. Everyone screws up now and again.

Also, you lent them Abenobashi to show that anime wasn't perverse? And that made them agree? It's his grandmother, man!

Edit: 600 posts! Apparently spamming anime forums makes me an anime guru :p

I think one of the biggest problems with anime and the mainstream are the silly, silly titles a lot of them have. xxxHOLiC, Tsubasa Chronicles, PaniPoni Dash, Noein - these names are enough to put me, an ardent anime fan, off getting them, so I can only imagine what people who don't watch anime would think. If companies like Manga and MVM just gave these shows more "accesible" titles, then anime wouldn't seem overwhelming or as if it was exclusive to anime fans to outsiders. The most popular anime all have good titles, that aren't overwhelmingly nonsensical to people who haven't seen them - Akira, Fullmetal Alchemist and all of the Studio Ghibli films.

Meh, just a mini-rant! :D

Perhaps, but they'd never be able to change the name of a title officially anyway.

But, I just mean for localisation teams to give the series/movie a more 'accesible' title, rather than simply adapting or slightly altering the Japanese name and ebding up with something 'stand-off-ish' like 'Negima! Magister Negi Magi' or 'Tenhjo Tenge'.

I agree with CitizenGeek.. though I always thought 'Fullmetal Alchemist' was a silly name :p

It doesn't help that the english titles of many, many mecha shows are all of the form 'adjective adjective noun' such as:

Space Runaway Ideon
Aura Battler Dunbine
Heavy Metal L-Gaim
Mobile Suit Gundam
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Full Metal Panic
etc.

Doesn't help the perception that such shows are cliched really...
edit: also, 'Fruits Basket'? I always wonder if that's acceptable english. Surely we would call it 'Fruit Basket', or if it's 'a basket for fruit', it should surely be 'Fruit's Basket'?

You're right... I always mess up by typing the correct english into amazon and not coming up with anything...

It's true that Manga have been making ammends for their past mistakes ( just look at GITS:SAC ), but first impressions count and a lot of damage has already been done.

As I said, Abenobashi is the best all rounder that I own. It's serious, stupid, charming, gross, cute, obsene, bizzare, happy and sad, all rolled into what seems to be a disjointed mish mash, but really turns out to be an emotional plot driven story. Ok, so she turns out to be his grandma, that's just part of the experience that is Abenobashi. :p

As for series having daft names, it's the covers too that can cause the troubles sometimes.

Fruits basket is the name of the game that is played.

Only really my friends know that I watch anime. Managed to interest one of my friends by letting him watch Full Metal Panic FUMOFFU.

Well a quick search on wiki came up with this answer

"The word "Fruits" in the title is always plural, and this apparent misspelling most likely originates from the name of a popular game in Japanese junior school, which has the same misspelling. However some may believe it is derived from the magazine popular in Harajuku."

Fruits Salad is kinda funny though lol ^^

Well I'm in a high school full of chavs so to avoid being beaten up in the corridors I can't exactly be open about my otakuness.

Most people my age either think anime is all porn or it's for kids (such a contrast!). I'm fortunate to have friends who either like anime or like other geeky things that I can relate to so I don't feel like I have to tell everyone about my fandom.

I have a feeling that Wiki entry will be removed, Or i have never noticed it before; not that it makes it false or not though.

That's the problem with anime. People who are not in the know believe that to be anime from news and what little they have seen. When in fact I believe anime to be the greatest medium of non interactive entertainment out there.
