Are you a closet anime fan ?

I'm hardly ashamed of what I watch, but like most I wouldn't boast about it. Like someone mentioned before, I doubt anyone at work knows what I'm into but I think all my friends and family do. Personally I'm completely at ease with it, but sadly we still live in a society which regards animation in two collumns:

1.Kid's stuff.

2.Or worse, porn.

It doesn't help that my HMV sticks hentai in with the anime as if theres no distinction :lol:

Yeah I know what you mean some of my mates regard it all as porn and my parents regard it as kids stuff but I've never cared its something I love and am pretty much addicted to so I'll watch what I like without really caring what they think, although my mates have come around to it as I have them watching Ghibli films now and they buy me anime for christmas and my birthday

No, i agree with what you're saying but there is nothing wrong with actually caring about people think about you. It will impact your life at one point, you can't walk around saying i don't give a flying monkey what anyone thinks because your shooting yourself in the foot.

If someone asks me what i like, i'll tell them, but you won't find me parading the streets saying "yay i love anime" Mainly because i'm an adult, also because i know what peoples preconceptions are and frankly i don't want to be given that label. How you can try and say someone isnt a fan or an enthusiast because of this somewhat bemuses me.

I never said you absolutely must show enthusiasm in the form of making EVERYONE you see aware of your fascination with anime, it's just like everyone's already been saying - if someone asks, then you tell them.

To correct my other broad post, I was trying to make the point that some people shy away from the fact they are a fan, and make it seem as though association with anime is like having a venerial disease.

The concept of semantics doesn't really come into play with HMV.
 
Its kind of obvious I'm an anime fan, I have huge FFVII wall scroll in my livingroom with Trigun Figures on shelves above my pc.

Gungrave wall scroll on display when people walk down the stairs

Shelves of Manga in my spare room as well as Trigun, FFVIII and Bluntman and Chronic figures on the sides

Anime Dvd's around the tv in the bedroom

Kinda gives off an addict look and I love it, just gotta put some stuff in the kitchen to make that look right
 
People in my class know I like manga as I read some in cover lessons xD Some people are like, "Whats that?" "Why is it backwards?" And I dont really mind. Acutally I got a few people in my class into Deathnote xD

Then you get the annoying gits that just laugh at you.

Basiclly, My close mates and parents know I like it but I dont talk about it much unless someone brings it up.

Heh. Taught a girl today with a Naruto dog tag (man was she suprised when i recognised it). So you're not alone.
Anyway, no out of the closet (no room in there). Friends and workmates know, mainly cause
1- amazon rentals delivered ato work so when they ask what i get they either calalogue it as things they might want to watch or the weird (but not in a bad way) Japanese stuff.
2- trying to infect one my work mates kids with the otaku bug. Got him watching Dia Guard, Last Exile (vol 1-3) and a few other things.
 
Most poeple know I watch anime...though they wont have anything to laugh at. I showed a few poeple a clip of Elfen Lied... there were all "OMG! Some naked womens going around rippin' poeple's heads off! F***ing ruthless!"
 
I saw one of the bible black episodes they filled this woman up with water and then had a woman with a penis do thing with her. well you get the picture.

So whatever you do make sure they don't see that for there first anime :shock:

I figured it was hentai anyway :?, I guess they could get the wrong idea about anime from that sorta thing :lol:

Yeah that film seems to be the first thing peoples minds reference when they hear the words anime
 
An anime intrigued friend recently dropped by my house and saw my oh-so-anime merch encrusted room, and exclaimed that she never knew I was in to it. Me and my other friends concluded that my Anime obsession is a dirty secret, a taboo topic that we prefer to keep quiet about :p
 
Hmm i wouldnt really say im a closet fan. Most my mates know i watch it although none of them understand how i can watch so much :p
