Anyone recommend a good Mystery film

If you like twists, check out Mulholland Drive. Chances are you won't understand it first time round: I sure didn't. Awesome film though.

One superb mystery styled film I forgot to mention was the stunning Jacob's Ladder with Tim Robins.

Is it real? Is it a dream? Is it a conspiracy? Who knows!

Stunning film.

Another one for you, though I'd guess most people have seen it already (maybe) - Minority Report. :)

I might have mentioned it previously but just in case The Constant Gardener is a good choice (the good / bad casting thread some one mentioned this film and reminded me). :)

hmm..i liked the Butterfly effect, was interesting, and i thought it kept me thinking throughout..there was a dvd version which i think has/had 4 different endings on it.

Really? I knew there were two endings but four? I'm intrigued. :D

If you like Sixth Sense then you'll probably like other Shyamalan films: Unbreakable, Signs, The Village and also Lady In The Water has just come out (but reviews arn't too good so far.)
to smash that up. I loved the Sixth Sense, probably one of my favourite movies and Unbreakable was decent but Signs and The Village were complete tosh! Signs was a good idea but poorly executed and The Village.. well less said about that the better.

I'm just gonna go with the fact that they all SUCK :x
You didn't like the Sixth Sense?

...you suck!!!

Nope worked it out within the first 10 minutes and from then on it was a downward spiral

A few thrillers that I enjoyed were
FX 1 + FX 2
the Jacket
Inside Man
the Missing (Tommy lee Jones)
the 2 Bourne's
Crimson Rivers 1 + 2 (Jean Reno)

Also there's Asian thriller/horror
Face / Into the Mirror / Koma / Chaos / Shutter

Basic is a quality mystery about an army unit out on training where only 2 men return claiming the unit were all killed and the bodies blown away by a hurricane. However apart from the death and missing bodies the two soldiers stories differ, what did happen on the training mission? Love the HUGE twists at the end of the film too

The Generals Daughter - another good army based mystery whodunnit

I agree with desert_skunk, I thought Inside Man was good and has a nice explaination at the end not so much a twist cos you knew it was coming just not exactly what it was.

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Donnie Darko? i expect that most people have seen it but it sounds right up your street.

I would have mentioned that (a particular favourite of mine I might add) but I wasn't one hundred percent sure as to whether it qualified as a mystery film, but thinking about I suppose it does. Good suggestion there. :)

Here's another selection of mystery films, though the former's quality is debatable, it does have its fans:

* The Gift
* Identity
* LA Confidential

The latter one is class though. :)

I love this thread so much I'm attempting to keep it alive!

Another good mystery film I can recommend (though it won't be to everyones taste what with its epic running time and all) is Oliver Stone's 'JFK'.

In my opinion I think that's an excellent film. :)

I enjoyed this one more than I thought, though it won't be to everyone's liking, but From Hell was quite a solid (if violent) mystery thriller. :)

You can't get much better than:-
Polanski's Chinatown,
Hitchcock's Rear Window
Vertigo
De Palma's Blow Out
Dressed to Kill.

That's all the truly outstanding ones that come to mind at the mo which haven't been mentioned.

Fincher's The Game is supposed to be decent, but I haven't seen that one.

I thought that these were tosh but you might like em:-
Panic Room
Secret Window
Stir of Echoes
From Hell
