Another "possible" outside threat to Anime

They're going to have a field day with Azumanga Daioh and Lucky Star... it's a nightmare trying to distinguish Lolicon from most anime's, nowadays, so a few normal anime series might get chewed on in order to "cleanse" it of Loli.

I was about going to post this topic.......anyway

This might help

http://www.justice.gov.uk/publications/non-photographic-depictions.htm

First of all.....what I know is, the threshold is a bit unclear in here. First, the age of the "child" in the anime, manga...Is not real, and we cannot give a birth certificate or a passport to it to proof its age, even BBFC said that they will have problems with that. So, therefore they choose to judge its age, but this depends on how people judge and it is vary from people to people..... For example, people will say Shana looks like an 11 to 13 years old because she is short and in fact, she is a lot older because "she can't age." (long story). (e.g. Rukia in Bleach, she looks like 17 to 18, but in fact she is alot older) The reverse can be applied (e.g. Sakura in Naruto Shippūden, she looks like 17 to 18 but in fact she is 16). Therefore, it is unclear and might or will be unfair for some people who fell into this unclear threshold.

Second, the definition of "sexual".....as far as I know, the consultation paper that they published last year, for me, it was a bit unclear. But they made it more clear on the response paper. But still, will some anime will cross the line by how people view it? (I've seen someone says about that Shana, Rukia.....are lolicon stuff), how the character dress? (of course, if the character only dressing underwear then, no doubt it is going to cross the line. But if the charactor dress normally, e.g. some people find the "school uniform" is sexual) Also, the problem that Ryo Chan, Yagami and the others stated before:

which is exactly the reason i see it as a threat to anime, i can see them banning animes under this new law despite there being no actual "sexual references" between the characters

if they start picking out anime like Elfen Lied, and others that maybe have partial ecchi scenes in, then yes, it could be a threat to anime.

I do understand the intention behind the government is for good (protecting children) , but what I feel is..., just like how you guys feel. That they are so stereotype towards anime in this plan, also it has loads of grey area. And might put some innocent people into jail, that he or she watched some of the series of anime or manga....which came accross with this grey area, or being over killed by some people (e.g. age of the character and other things that people can give a reason to over kill it and put it in a sexual way)....... I think they should do more research and get rid of these grey area before they start banning it.

If not,.....loads of problems will occur in the UK anime industry or even the whole media industry in the UK.

I know is a bit wordy, but it is true.

I just looked through the consultation paper, and I couldn't see anything that would have a big effect on the Anime industry. It mentioned the risk of things that weren't porn getting in trouble under this law, so I'm pretty sure they'll take that into account when they make it. In other words, a Lucky Star DVD won't come with a free prison sentence :p

Hell, unless I completely misunderstood something, it said that it would be unlikely that people would get their computers hauled away just because they were suspected of having lolicon on it. They seemed more interested in the photo-realistic stuff than hentai (which seems to be anything but photo-realistic).

If I got something wrong then tell me, but I think people are overreacting to this. It wont affect normal anime, it probably wont affect hentai much either, and I doubt anyone who does like lolicon will be hauled away for it.

Still, this thought-police stuff is a bit scary. I dont like hentai in general, but I still think this law's just there so that people have to live by others' uninformed standards - a lot like that hardcore porn ban. I say that if no-ones getting hurt over it, it shouldn't be allowed.

P.S. Hi, this is my first post, sorry if its a bit long lol :p

Y'know, I'm not really sure if this is the government's intention or not, since it's not actually going to protect any children. Or maybe we've just got dumb politicains, who knows...

Sounds like you've got things right to me. But still, it does seem like this could well be a slippery slope sort of issue.

lol...I didn't really read the first post properly, I just started rambling.

It's not really about "provocative" or even "a bit sexualised" as far as I can gather...everything I've seen about it today has been pretty clear it's about obscene child abuse...which most of the stuff people would be interested in playing or watching really isn't.

Guess Rule of Rose is safe...I'll be having that! >_>

Bingo.

From the consultation document:

The offence should criminalise nonphotographic
visual images depicting the following:
• An image which focuses excessively on a child’s genitalia
• A person of any age performing an act of intercourse or oral sex with a child
• An act of masturbation by, of or involving a child
• Penetration of the vagina, anus or mouth of a child with a part of the person’s body or
with anything else
• Bestiality involving a child

So a bit of fanservice or lolicon (as they are usually clothed/covered or 'asexual') should be just fine. If a hentai anime has been passed by the BBFC then its not going to be affected either. The BBFC classes actual porn with an 18R. Any manga sold in the UK should have been looked at under the obscene publications act which covers this already.

Storm in a teacup, again.

So End of Eva and Death and Rebirth will be illegal

D&R should be banned anyway... its awful. But you don't actually see Shinji doing it in EoE, its just implied by his comments and the resulting mess.

And again it was passed by the BBFC as 15 with no cuts, they didn't seem to mind.

That wasn't put there for the sake of being erotic though. Also, EVA counts as an art form (Animation), if they didn't have that loophole then Romeo and Juliet would be banned under UK law too.

THIS LAW WILL ONLY AFFECT HENTAI, AND NOT THAT MUCH EITHER.

By the way,.......the plan hasn't brought to the Parliament yet.....and it might have loads of changes after  ........so, don't be so happy too early....
