Another "possible" outside threat to Anime

Am i the only one who finds it highly unlickley that peadophiles are going to use the sketch effect on all their photos or print them out and trace over them?

The daily mail readers more than likely think so.

first they try ban hentai, which is just a animated version of 75% of the internet now this, i dont wanna be put in jail for waitching anime such as negima and shuffle

Back on-topic, these proposals IF they become law are unlikely to threaten the anime industry - the worst we're likely to see is a raised incidence of annoying misunderstandings at the hand of ill-informed individuals...which we as fans are used to seeing anyway, right?

And here speaketh the voice of reason.

The police/CPS would need a pretty good case showing that you were a paedophile to make anything stick.

Owning a gun doesn't mean you will be arrested for potential murder. Owning a fast car won't get you points for potential speeding. To be convicted as a paedophile you have to be one first.

As I said on AoD, unless you're heading off to the park with some kitty ears and a pocket full of sweeties with the intent of acting out one of the pics, its highly unlikely anyone will take any notice of you.

just got my mail from my postbox and got mezzo forte/kite and found out its hentai, and in one of the scene's the woman is duck taped, could i get put in prison for this

i ordered it from up1.co.uk thinking it was safe http://up1.co.uk/Details/K0611
im not sure if i will get refunded because i opened the package

Even if this law passes, it will only afffect those who got on hentai sites frequently and download pictures of loli and obvious underage looking girls frequently

I mean, its unlikely the police are going to raid someone house just because they looked at a picture one time.

If you kept quiet about it, you would have been fine. But now it's in black and white on the net, you're kinda screwed. Oh well!

Unlike UP1 not to put (Adult) after the name if it is hentai though.

Anyway, Misa is apparently at least 19 through Death Note, so I'll be alright!

Er...I mean "would be alright if I accidentally navigated onto such a page"... >_>

I don't get it...

You just ordered a random anime dvd from up1? I mean, come on. I could understand that if its cheap, maybe it was on sale and you would be like "bah, what the heck, I can find out what it is when I get the dvd! :D", But it isn't. Don't you look up a dvd if you see one? o.0

As for the whole topic, I agree with the fact that lolicon's are wrong, but I somehow think this article is fake. I mean, why would the government be so stereotypical towards anime? I doubt they would start arresting you for owning a few anime with parts of hentai in. I mean, sometimes the hentai is very relevant to the scenes plot, and without it, the anime couldn't be the same. Myself, I don't watch hentai or whatever, so I guess I'm not at risk. But, if they start picking out anime like Elfen Lied, and others that maybe have partial ecchi scenes in, then yes, it could be a threat to anime.

Surely though, don't the companies get a say in this? If they do go over the top and start blaming anime, it could cost companies loads.

It is not fake I heard it on the radio this morning. It is not about anime and manga directly it has just been surmised they may be affected because of some of the things they portray. What it is really about is the fact that some paedophiles are passing around drawings depicting sex acts with children to get around current laws up until now these have not been illegal, but a change in the law is being brought in that will treat these drawings in the same way as photos.

There's a decent enough logic behind it. It's like...if someone wanted to paint the Queen, they'd ask her to sit in a certain way (regally, I guess) for a bit, while they painted her.

So if someone wants to do illicit drawings of kids, it's not unreasonable to assume there might have been some kind of...posing involved.

Obviously, this isn't gonna be the case for your average h-doujin, but whatever...I guess that's the logic or whatever.

But damn...how indepth is this thoughtcrime cleansing gonna be? I'm thinking of buying Rule of Rose, but I don't wanna be locked up with the rapists and fansubbers... =(

hentai fine take that away if it leaves the rest alone. but shows with fan service need to be left alone cause they are just for fun and aren't serious. as a gamer i am getting sick of goverements taking away my free rights on my hobbies. so i hope they are readng this screw you!
They don't care about fan-service. That's not what this is about.

they'd probually ban Cardcaptor Sakura just because of Sakura's crush on Yukito :(
That's an exaggeration since any anime with a hint of romantic thoughts would be banned (and Sakura's crush on him is quite sweet and innocent), so more than half of anime in existence would be banned.

You'd think so, but a lot of hentai show to me that the artists don't actually know what a naked human being looks like and they have poor anatomical knowledge.

While not unreasonable, it's not proof either.

aham, "2 uncut sexed-up titles combined" didn't give you any clues? =D

I have this as well. it's an awesome anime and it work very well on the cutted version as well. In fact, it work even better on the cutted version, as you can actually play it while missus is visiting... =)

Hahaha! That's wonderful. :p

But, in all seriousness, it's just another layer of control that us British are going to have to endure.

Time to leave the country, guys.

I still don't see how this is a threat.

Remember the music industry saying that they would "clamp down" on any illegal downloading?

I rest my case.

assuming most anime fans are kids / teenagers, I really fail to understand why they would put ban on anime. Hentai would get caught, butI don't believe anime itself would.

I agree with Maxon, I don't believe they would ban everything. I think they would ban Mezzo / Kite.... the latter because the protagonist is a minor, the first for a rape scene. But I don't think it would affect the cut version of them...
Also, gunsmith cats with Minnie May - although she claims to be 18, she is purposefully drawn like 12 / 13 yo... it's a shame to cut those scenes, but I believe it's completely understandable.

i think the main threat of it is to fanpics, lots of fan artists draw what they think are cute couples, which "may" be seen as inapropiate

this is all hypothetically speaking though remember that, i haven't nor did the article actually mention a definate threat to anime, but more the dojin-fan art sides of it

I'll second that. They'd have a hard time enforcing those kind restrictions on anime and manga. The material that's likely to be affected is the kind of stuff which you'd normally never encounter anyway. It's much like when politicians attack games, it's all for publicity - the only games that have been banned in UK are Carmaggedon and Manhunt 2, the former later re-released and latter likely to win it's appeal soon. Let them make a fuss, in a few years no one will even care.
