Anime UK News mascot character - can you draw one?

I'll have a think about a deadline. It won't be more than two weeks since I want to use the mascot as a part of the new profile feature we're building for the site.

So far, I'm really liking what I've seen from Cheeky (authentic Japanese style) and WTFDaveMustaine (cool humor), Hyaku's group image was fun too! :) Generally I'm looking for an iconic character that I can spread through out the site - from the banner at the top of this page, to a forum avatar or a larger, wider image that is able to break up a big block of text.

A badge, possibly. A logo, not really - if you look through out the site, I'm basically looking to replace all those images of Lavi from Last Exile with something original. A logo wouldn't really fit right if it's right under the banner. However, if you want to design a logo - go for it, I can combine a unique logo with this new mascot and create a new top banner!

I'm not sure, but I know they aren't original to Anime UK News (the image was designed by forum user adamcube), so we can't really use them in the same way as a real mascot.

That's great to hear, I was especially impressed with the sketch that you attached to your OutlawART thread! :)

I haven't set a deadline yet, but it's probably going to be around the 15th of July.

I wouldn't worry about drawing a big variety right now. Just produce one image; if it gets chosen, we can work out all the different poses. That way no-one will waste too much time.
 
I'm doing a few drawing now, I'll post then later. If you don't want to use them then no big deal. I'll probably 'file' them for later. :)

Ok gonna start RIGHT NOW.
 
REALLY rough sketch of what i had in mind. Tried to get the entire of the UK not just England with the heraldic animal, and variety of anime (mecha, samuri, tenchi's sword etc).

I decided to take a page out of WTFDM's book and switch to cartoons:

I like the look of the herald, something traditionally British (possibly?) but something that you see on a few anime school blazers - anyone else think that's a good idea?

I fleshed out my idea a bit more (good to get back into drawing, having not done any for a few months!).

Basically there's two characters - provisionally called 'Baka' and 'Waka'. As you might guess, Baka's the OTT anime fan (enjoying a spot of kareoke here) and Waka's the long suffering friend. Gives some room for a bit of story behind the pictures :)

Number 3 - Mecha Supahstarrr

These are the only three i'm going to do for now. If Paul decides to use the character I'll draw different versions for the encyclopedia, reviews and so on.
