Anime Limited licenses Fullmetal Alchemist for a UK Blu-ray & DVD release

Are we being presumptuous in assuming a UE...? I think it deserves one but there already seems to be a fair few in the pipeline... On a slightly related note I wonder if we could get MVM / Manga / animatsu to agree to adopt the UE sizing for any "extra special" releases...

Andrew says it will get a UE in the blog post:
"The original Fullmetal Alchemist has a strong place in all of our hearts here at Anime Limited” says Andrew Partridge, President of Anime Limited. “It’s a show that for many people in the UK was a gateway into anime, and after being out-of-print for a long time what better way to celebrate it having been a decade since the series received it's first release in the UK, yes it has been that long, than being able to bring the series out on DVD and for the first time on Blu-ray. Well there is one way we can think of; an Ultimate Edition Blu-ray set."

Good point. I need to learn to read this stuff properly rather than skimming. What UE's are incoming now then? FMA / Eureka Seven / TiR / Escaflowne ?

The coming soon section of the Anime Schedule page is crazy. 75 items... 50 of which are Anime Limited. Nearly 1 a week if we expect them all to land within 1 year...

Yeah... and I'm not even counting the 40 things they have in the section above that that already have dates...

edit: ok 7 of those 40 are already out.

Q4 2015 - 11 Releases (nearly achieved)
Q1 2016 - 29 planned (need to average ~1 every 3 days!)
Q2 2016 - 2 planned so far
unknown dates 50 planned...

I think expecting them all to come out next year is a little forward, given Comet Lucifer is still airing, and Durarara!!x2 Ketsu won't air until January. There also seems to be debate over whether Rec G is a 2-part release or a complete box set. (Amazon calls it a "complete box set" but only lists two discs.)

True although I'd expect some yet-to-be announced will land in that one year timeframe making those numbers be roughly what their plans are...
 
I honestly think 3 a month (new titles, not including standard re-releases etc) is gonna be what we see at most from Al.

I remember commenting on like August this year about how their late q3 and q4 schedule had more titles being released than they'd done since their inception, and then countless titles got pushed a few months and we actually only got around half of these. Delays happen a lot, but honestly, anime limiteds license catalogue keeps getting bigger and bigger so they're either going to be sitting on some for quite a while or they'll be upping release regularity.

I've been thinking that myself too. It's nuts how much A/L have compared to the others. Positive quite a few of those titles won't be till 2017 though. I'm sure it generally takes just over a year for a physical release outside of Japan (They're still getting out shows from Summer 2014 : http://anichart.net/summer-14 ), with few exceptions to the rule.

We might be thinking they have more cause the likes of MVM/Manga/Anumatsu only really announce titles for the upcoming quarter (though that is changing, MVM with Gate, Monster Musume & Re-Kan for example) yet A/L seem to just chuck them at us :lol:
 
I like it when companies announce in good time (preferably during the original broadcast) as it helps me decide which version to buy. Any later than that and I might have bought the Japanese version or set my heart on the US release, so they lose a sale for absolutely no reason.

There's also a kind of bias towards new things. If a show airs, I watch it (or don't, because of FUNimation) and then we go into another season, I gradually forget how much I wanted to buy the show and it gets replaced by flashier content. If I know a release is coming while I'm still buzzing, I add it to my shopping list and throw it on an order when the time comes. Sitting on announcements (or just waiting before deciding to license something at all) has to be a major contributor towards sales disappointments...

I do have fond memories of watching the original series on... whatever digital channel showed it one a week all those years ago (rapture? something like that...) but I'm happy with Brotherhood.
 
It'll be interesting to see how AL handle this release given the amount of episodes. I won't be buying it as I have Funi's CE which I really like but am still wondering how AL will approach things. Now all I want is a nice CE for Brotherhood lol.

It will be one Ultimate Edition with all 50 episodes? The FMP set had over 50 episodes, the Eureka Seven set will have 50 odd too.

It should be a complete set. Aniplex is allowing Funimation to release FMA in one complete set for only £35 (Standard Edition pricing of course). With Anime Limited's Ultimate Edition they'll simply use the 6 discs that Funi made and possibly take most, if not all, of the contents in the artbook from the Collector's Edition.

Eureka Seven I'll be curious to see if they're able to release it in one complete set. Funi's release is still two parts (25 episodes each).

I cant imagine AL being forced to do that, especially as they said they're going to be going for the Ultimate Edition. I imagine the fact that this will have an rrp of like £149.99 the Japanese licensor will be fine.

This however I definitely agree with. Especially for shows that just miss the cut of me importing the JP version.
