UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Crunchyroll charged the same SRP as any of their Standard Edition Movie Blu-ray, which only feature Amaray & O-Card and no special packaging at all. Also it's possible that the lack of special features might be due to Japan, as the Japanese UHD only has some 4min audio commentary (?) with other extras exclusive to way more expensive non-UHD-Editions

AL applying anime pricing to a live-action film like Labyrinth is a slippery slope for physical media collectors.

They 'just' about get away with it for anime because most understand the licenses are a nightmare and generally high to deter reverse importers in Japan.

But when you're asking £70 for a film you're opening the door to all the others to say 'hell our edition has way more stuff, why are we only charging £50'.

AL came in as THE boutique label for anime and they're steadily heading to be the ones that actual kill the collectors market with their insane prices.

Rant over, I'm sure some people will buy it but if you've got that money to throw away you might as well go balls out and get the one from the Bowie store that comes with a replica crystal 😂

To be honest, as much respect as I have for Henson, Bowie and both movies, I'm confused why an anime company is releasing them. Yes, I know anime in Japan isn't as insular as 21st century westeners have made it but it feels like a real reach to be applicable.

They're actually normal price points for 4K steelbooks or collectors editions including a steelbook at RRP.

Though without discounts the US CEs are slightly cheaper and nicer.

Honestly doesn't bother me them releasing the movies, again I think we all understand its slim pickings out there in the anime world.
But they shouldn't be treating it like its one of their anime products because its a fundamentally different market.
To be blunt, us anime fans take a lot of sh¡t that just won't fly in the normal physical media space.

Not quite in the UK, normal price point for a 4K steelbook is £30 - £35 (which they're at price wise) but the collectors editions standard is £50 - £55 normally with steelbook, rigid case, posters, postcards, booklet etc.

For ones pushing £70 there's normally 'super tat' like the Labyrinth crystal ball or the Dark Crystal from the one you posted.

A £35 price increase for just the rigid case and 64 page booklet is INSANE.

In case anyone here wants to be a product manager, and enjoy being on the other side of all the "why haven't you released x yet?" complaints 😅
Does one of the requirements of the role involve occasionally kicking the order management server, to prevent the queue from getting stuck?

Otherwise @Hanners are you running another competition for who has the longest dispatch time from this sale? What’s the prize?
There didn’t appear to be such a vast quantity of orders, so having one unfulfilled for a fortnight is a little unexpected.

What's going on with dispatch atm? I had something sent within a couple of days at the start of the sale, but already a week has passed since a rejigged second order. No notice on the site about delays.

Just wondering how others are doing with sale item dispatch times

Just got out of Akira. I'd only seen chunks of the Cam Clarke dub on Channel 4/Sci-Fi, so happy to have finally seen the full Japanese original on the big screen.

Admittedly could have done without the 3 guys who arrived 25 minutes late and spent the rest of the movie loudly chatting...

I made an order on 4 April for Crunchyroll releases using the coupon, which has not yet shipped.

Crunchyroll and MVM stock from the sale period is still incoming - there are a few items that we've needed to order additional stock in of (RE:Zero Season 2, Durarara and Cardcaptor Sakura notably), but there shouldn't be anything holding up any orders beyond that so reach out to our usual customer service channel so we can check on things otherwise!
