UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

12 Days of christmas live show break down:

Runs from 5pm Dec 1st-13th

The usual daily things (no early bird each day anymore, cause well they know they wont make it on schedual) + stuff on throught out the sale as usally.
So looks like there won't be a load of titles release

Possible OOP title from stock found from various places (sound like the "last chance to buy offers" will be a daily thing and will change).

Mystery boxes, probably 4 but could be more, on 1st december/launch, don't know if there still CE mystery boxes though.

The usual: Stocking fillers,
CE deals (no mention of ultimate edition, but possible there is the odd one in there),
Early bird prices of recent titles (this will be a opend up on a certain day),
bundle offers (for a set of series or boxset),
Flash sale return again (3 seprate days), runs for a couple of hours (implied good sale price on higher priced item),
Vinyl sale (a couple of music days),
MVM Sale Day (20% off, and I think mention of some stocking filler priced items of there range),
BOGOF (oh there was mention of BOGOF at the end and included Gundam BOGOF in there too),

Free international and domestic shipping (require a certain threashold)
Bonus discount for Anime Unlimited as usual
Mailing list discount code still avalible at 10% off (with i assume certain amount required to be spent)

It's very possible i missed the odd thing, was just writing a few things down as it was live

Old out of print stuff is interesting but no mention of additional postage discounts or a lower threshold means those daily and flash deals are gonna seem less appealing the more the days go on. They really need to be offering some sort of combined postage where it all ships together at the very least.

The wording of the mystery boxes worries me too since it feels like any titles could be fair game whereas before you could at least guarantee it hadn’t been in a box before. But that could just be me misinterpreting or doomposting and maybe there is still 1 box that’s the classic version

I’d love for the Black Lagoon CE to resurface, otherwise I have a rather lengthy list of titles that I haven’t picked up yet and the mystery boxes (at least for CEs) will be mine.

If the flash sales are anything like last year, it will likely be the more expensive sets. It was mentioned specifically that the flash sales would be geared toward higher end products. Last year we had Cardcaptors CE, Neon Genesis LE, and I think there was some ultimate edition sets in there too. I think everything was £50+, so postage won't be an issue in those cases.

I'm quite looking forward to the flash sales and seeing what some of the long out of print stuff is. I think the flash sales are likely to be the best of the lot in terms of price. Since last Christmas I haven't seen Neon Genesis LE, for example, available anywhere for the £59.99 that it was priced at for those few hours last year at ATA.

There was also Blood-C ultimate at £44 last year and mention of a collectors edition and vinyl day where a great many things will probably be under the threshold. I think the point still stands that it’s poor move that will make people think twice about what they order.

For sure. Unless you're wanting a product or a group of products that add up to £50+, you're going to be stuck with the £3.50 postage. Grabbing those bits and bobs from the other areas of the sale may not be as sweet of a deal as they were before. It also doesn't help that a lot of the sale is separated into different days.

My rule of thumb is going to be if I've seen a cheaper price elsewhere for a product throughout the year, then I'm not going to bother. However, I think the flash sales should still be pretty good in terms of price, even if some of the products are under the free delivery threshold.

I don't think I'm even looking for a single OOP item, especially one that's marked "sold out" in the store. It's different when it comes to music. Vampire Hunter D... I don't expect to buy much, because most of the things I don't have but would like are probably new, so they won't be on sale/the discount won't be big, but I could be wrong.

It's disappointing that they're not announcing the usual stack of 12 new early birds, but their decision to focus on getting their currently announced slate out the door in good shape is no doubt the right move, assuming said products are released with no problems.

I look forward to seeing what OOP items they have unearthed. I have mixed feelings about flash sales though. They're a neat idea for maintaining customer engagement, but if the window is only a few hours for each then people who can't check their phones constantly will miss out. It also seems an odd choice to put extra pressure on the order fulfillment side of things by encouraging people to place multiple orders over a few days.

I'm sure the lack of new titles has nothing to do with the fact that the majority of their output is the trash you can pickup from Sentai dirt cheap, and half of the time it's MVM or Animatsu's sloppy seconds.

Silver lining though; at least with the lack of early birds, we won't be bent over and forced to take a daily £3.50 P+P fee.

After them changing it so everything in the order ships together, I think no preorders is a good idea tbh. Saves stock being boxed away for ages waiting on one preorder to be released

It's come to something when I read through a thread and think "Geez guys, lighten up a bit".

Welcome back, seasonal visitors. Enjoy moaning about AL while giving them hundreds of pounds.
True true
They dont in theory need to have any sale at all, but i always look forward as i always end up getting stuff myself

I think the lack of pre orders is definitely a good thing, most have been stung so much we go into the AL sale with an epipen!
On the almost certainly gonna be a downside I think most will want specific titles that will likely be hidden in one of the many mystery boxes.

Your trash might be someone's favourite anime.
If you list your favourite anime, I'll happily trash some of them.

Don't get me wrong, I love trash, but AL are releasing them in overpriced editions with nothing to justify the cost, while the same titles are a small fraction of the price in Sentai's constant sales long before we see a finished product.

I'm hoping for some Gundam deals in the sale, I have some holes to fill in my collection. That said, I'm worried about stock issues with those titles. Many of the Gundam releases have been out-of-stock for a VERY long time with no sign of replenishment. I sincerely hope they are not out of print. I wish AL would clarify if something is back-ordered or in the process of being reprinted.

I regretted selling my old Bandai 0080 DVD set years ago and because Rightstuf version is not in stock atm, I resorted to buying the Gundam Libraries version from Amazon JP.
