UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Wolf Children steelbook looks the same as the US one from GKids. I was eyeing that up but it's Amazon exclusive, and I know better than to import a steelbook from Amazon. So yay for a UK release. GKids also did 4k steelbooks for TGWLTT and Summer Wars. Hopefully they follow.

Best thing is the general retail release for the steelbook, which means I don't have to deal with AL directly.

They'll be the same, GKids and Anime Limited often collaborated on CEs even before both becoming sister companies under Toho.

I'm slightly confused then, because our Deluxe edition appears to have an exclusive bonus Blu-ray disc which contains extras.

There's no mention of any extras on our steel book version. Whereas the GKIDS version does have extras.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days steelbook's store page doesn't mention Voices of a Distant Star - does that mean that the Blu-ray disc is different from the one previously included in the standard edition (and, I assume, the Shinkai anthology), which had both on the same disc? I don't see why removing Voices would have been necessary. A shame because the steelbook looks pretty and if it had Voices and especially if it had its OST too (my math says both OSTs could've just barely fitted on one CD) I would likely go for it despite already having both the standard DVD and Blu-ray.

Due to changes in licensing restrictions, this will released will be The Place Promised in Our Early Days only - we can't include Voices of a Distant Star in this edition.

There are frames missing in the Perfect Blue UHD when the photographer is stabbed repeatedly. The screen goes black during those parts. This also happens on the Japanese UHD. Video comparison with Blu-ray (slowed down to 6fps for easier viewing)

This happens again a few seconds later, but I'm not showing it here because of exposed breasts and pubes. Because these shots are repeated, the missing frames can be replaced easily. I hope that this can be fixed in the standard edition.

There's another error early in the film that I noticed that should not be difficult to paint out: 00013.m2ts_snapshot_[00_03_33.422].jpeg

If it's on the Japanese disc it's the same in the source file so this isn't getting fixed.

It's pretty crap if they have made the extras exclusive to the DE when the GKids steelbook has them. It looks like the extras are the same ones that are on the Hosoda Collection disc. I was keeping that anyway because of the excellent booklet, but would leave a bad taste.
