UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

So Empire of Corpses has gone into the BBFC. It was submitted by Anime Ltd. which is interesting because they haven't announced they have it yet. :D

Also Jerome said Manga don't have GE so it looks like ATA will have it is my guess

Assuming GE means GOD EATER (and I've no idea why you're obsessed with that series, it's mediocre at best), Aniplex of America has it for the UK, which coincidentally Andrew confirmed in passing on the last podcast.

Per Jerome's recent comments, it wasn't ever going to be Animatsu or Manga, AoA has good relationships with MVM and AL, so it'll probably end up at either of the two. Not for a while though, I imagine this'll be a title where UK distributors wait to see how cheaply they can get it...

Quite simply because i enjoy it and i think people devalue it due to the delays and i would love AL to have a ufotable product

Well they did show Ufotable's amazing but hardly ever mentioned now film Magical Sisters Yoyo & Nene at SLA a few years back - I'd like to think that still had a shot at getting a UK release via Anime Ltd. It was an Aniplex title I believe.

Of the SLA line up, I hope that AL pick up The Case of Hana and Alice - I've yet to see it (though I will next week when it tours) but it looks gorgeous. I'd have most faith in them to do right by it and include the original 2004 film and shorts. It's a source of constant disappointment to me that no Shunji Iwai film has ever been released in the UK - for my money both Love Letter and April Story are 5 star masterpieces.

It's a series that commits unbreakable sins right from the start (like introducing seemingly important characters only for them never to appear again), and no matter how much fans would try and convince me otherwise, is a poor copy of Attack on Titan. If I wanted to watch an Attack on Titan clone, I'd watch Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign, because at least that's fun.

I think it's been overvalued due to ufotable's involvement, had any other studio made it, it would have sunk like a stone never to heard from again. It doesn't even look that good...

I don't think its an AoT clone it never crossed my mind

The AOT comparisons are thematic at best - and largely just because it's animated by the same studio (WIT).

From a visual standpoint I personally think it has much more in common with Clamp's X/1999 but maybe that's just me.

Tbh I find Seraph of the End to be more of a fast and furious rip off with the amount of times family is mentioned .

Thematic, similar lines of dialogue, similar characters, the thing that gets revealed in the 11th episode is almost the exact same as Eren's ability, the same composer, the same studio. It's hard not to compare the two.

Thinking of Terror in Resonance, would it be possible to create a Japanese audio track for Episode 7 that switches to the English dub for the lines that are in English in the original Japanese? I'm not sure how difficult it would be to do, but I'm sure anyone that's seen it would agree that the English is really terrible and actually ruins what should be a suspenseful episode. Or at least that's my 2 cents.

I didn't think TIR's English scenes were that bad, especially not compared to Charlotte, or my particular favourite, the live action Space Brothers film where everybody speaks English with random pauses between words. Cut the pauses and you'd probably halve the film's running time...

Just started Tokyo Ghoul (my first anime for a month or so) and really enjoyed the first three episodes. Happy to hear the next season will be released q1 2016 so not a huge wait!

Actually doesn't mean much - it needed BBFC'd for screenings (you can guess where one of them is) so we took on the role of doing that on behalf of it's rights holder.

No secret though - I'm extremely keen on Project Itoh's works though so am of course pursuing as a whole but actually don't have the rights barring some theatrical screenings via SLA just now. I do have the rights in France though...

That's a shame, the films sound really interesting. I hope you guys are able to get them at some point :)

As an extremely nosy aside, can you not apply for a licence from the Local Authority to get round the BBFC? Although that's probably way more work.

Is there going to be any more announcements regarding the last two mystery films being shown at MCMLA?
I'm still trying to see if I can get people to go, so the more films known the better.

Been pretty thorough on these ones so you'll be glad to hear so far, so good ;)! Seen FMP Ultimate, MSG Pt 1 and Tokyo Ghoul DVD here. No reason to believe either Prisma or Baccano will have them either based on another check of the print files here now ;).

That said, if anyone is disappointed and really wants a defect, I remain on-hand to dropkick the collector's edition across the hall for you after purchase :D.

We'll be announcing them shortly :).

ah damn. I've wanted Baccano for sooo long. But reluctant to cancel my Amazon pre-order as I got it in at £32.44 :( I assume MCM pricing will be closer to the £50 mark...?

Probably pick up the other Blu's though.
