Anime lets downs

I don't think I'll ever get people who criticize the quality and direction of Ghibli movies. They are world class films.
I accept they are popular films but I don't enjoy them for my own reasons. I was just saying that if the quality is there then a story can be told at any length. That wasn't meant as a stab at the Ghibli films.

If you want a movie that's long, boring, poorly directed etc then look no further than Advent Children.
Agreed with that.

Well I think you can when the material is strong enough. Satoshi Kon's work is proof of that.

Objectively the material is strong enough though.

Gee-willickers Batman!

You're like the only other person I've ever seen to say that movie was a total steamer. Everyone else I knew said it was awesome... >_>

I don't have a problem with Ghibli films in general (Whisper is one of my favourite films) I just think Miyazaki isn't all that great apart from in Totoro and Naussica.

I haven't seen either of those.

Anyone who isn't a Final Fantasy fanboy dislikes it. The general consensus among gamers is that Advent Children is boring and poorly directed, as Paul said.

Wonder how many are on this list not because they are bad or you don't like them, but because they were either over hyped or missrepresented.
People have been giving fair reasons. I hate Excel Saga, but I didn't mention it, so that's a bit of a moot point. Besides, the first two anime you mentioned aren't well known, so it's just down to you not liking them, which nullifies the point you're trying to make.

Uh, if the topic is let-downs, surely lots of titles that people list should be ones that were overhyped or misrepresented? Because if this is a thread about titles we don't like I sure messed up my post, as I like some of the ones I mentioned.

I probably wouldn't dislike Spirited Away so much if it werent for the hype basically claiming it as the best anime ever. I still wouldn't like it but I don't think it would be as vehemently as I do.
I know what you mean, I probably wouldn't dislike Cowboy Bebop so much if it wasn't for people asking if I'd even watched it, etc. when I said I didn't like it.

Really? I admit I haven't seen that many Ghibli films, but I thought Nausicaa was the worst one... not that I can say it let me down, as at that point I'd never heard of Ghibli and had no expectations one way or the other.

I don't particularly like Naussica but by Miyazaki standards it is one of the better ones.

To be far though I did really like Future Boy Conan which Miyazaki did. Maybe he's just not that good with films.

That doesint say much about Miyazaki.

Maybe. To be honest though there aren't very many anime films (as opposed to series) that I do like. It's really just Whisper of the Heart and End of Eva (if you even consider that film). The first Ghost in the Shell and Satoshi Kon's films are good but they didn't really leave me stunned by the end.

I know what you mean about the movies.
It seems less and less are being relased in favour of series.
I personally love a good anime movie.
And I think if you werent stunned by Kons movies I say watchum again.
Come on,Perfect Blue,Tokyogodfathers,Millenium actress.
And dont forget the upcoming Paprika.

What a resume that is for one of(if not the) the best in the buisness.
Now I just hope he eventually works on another series after PA.
Raaaaaa eeeeeeeh aaaaaaah Baby.

Why does everyone pick on FF7 : AC, I can watch it a billion times and never get tired of it.

If you really want a anime let down, then look no further than the likes of Naruto or anything Hentai.

Seriously, I don't know why everyone watches naruto, its just Ninjas throwing stuff

I wouldn't go as far as to call them Ninja's...

Because it has very little plot and what is there is forced and nonsensical with confusing spinning action scenes that carry on for the majority of the movie just trying to show off their CGI skills. Also thrown in are the pointless appearences of most of the characters from the game so that all the fans can get to see their favourite. It's made as fanservice for fans of the game but even then it doesn't add to the story of the game in any way.

People "pick on it" or the reasons WTFDaveMustaine has said.

I have to agree. I got a bit annoyed when I picked up a copy of Neo and I saw Ah! My Goddess on the cover and when I found it was the main article of the magazine. People rave about it a lot but I don't see why. I managed to get through the first season due to pure curiosity, but only made it to five episodes in the second season and gave up.

At least the Main Charater in Bleach is more better and funnier than Naruto.... Naruto is like one of the worst anime Characters.

I rest my case
