Anime lets downs

Gundam Seed Desteny: Seed was fine, Desteny went and pissed right over it.

Rozen Maiden Tramund: Rosen Maiden was fine, Tramund went and pissed right over it

Naruto On Jetix: Naruto on Toonami US was fine, Jetix went and pissed right over it.

Seeing a patern here?

Wholeheartedly seconded. The first 15 or so eps of Destiny are great, but after that it aall just goes to hell.

I'll also throw in Noir, RahXephon, Jinki Extend, Hare Nochi Guu, Futakoi Alternative, just off the top of my head.

Hmm, not sure why anyone would think Jinki:Extend was good in the first place - man was that series a waste of time (apart from the ending theme).

The ending to Futakoi Alternative was certainly a bit of a let-down for me, I thought it had so much potential in the middle of the series - they were actually making a proper anti-harem series, and then...squid-nazi-KKK sci-fi plot twist rejects. Damn. :(

Samurai X - Trust and Betrayl was a let-down for me. Not that it was bad, but having read the manga first it seemed merely good, rather than the masterpiece I'd heard people raving about on other forums. Not a bad story, but a predictable one.

And yes, I'll just throw Elfen Lied out there again... :p
The whole time I was watching it I was thinking "Hmm, people gave this really good reviews, I'm sure it'll get good soon..." And I was still thinking that when it ended. It didn't get good.

The ending of Those Who Hunt Elves, The fact it doesn't end and they just keep on searching is annoying, we need another series made to wrap it all up

The anime that let me down was

cowboy bebop
gundam wing
chobits
Excel sega (what a load of crap)

Those are all the anime that pretty much let me down

Is that the one where Mario and Sonic try to take over the Paper World with the power of Sonic's Shining Force Shoes and Mario's Suspicious Looking Mushrooms? Man, good times. :p

(kidding, of course ^_~)

Angel's Egg - A little girl is guarding an egg and talking to this stranger and nothing really happens and the thing goes on and on like a philosophical Energizer Bunny. ~_~ I think I'll borrow a term someone used for Haibane Renmei (shokku! =o): Major Yawn. =p

Furi Kuri - I usually dig random lunacy, but this thing just felt like dumb lunacy; which is actually what some people would say about Excel Saga, so...uum... Hey, is that a demonic duck of some sort?

GiTS 2 - I loved the first film, but this one just felt so slow and clunky, I barely paid attention to what was going on. Very meh. >_>

.hack//SIGN - The ending probably made more sense to those who have played the game, but come on! After all the trouble these guys went through to get Tsukasa into the real world, he just sort of appears there for no apparent reason. Say what?? o_0;

NGE: Death and Rebirth - Mission to appease Eva fans by cobbling something together and releasing it in a hurry.... Failed!

NieA Under 7 - I absolutely adore ABe's work...except for this one. If you thought Haibane was slow...>_>;

sorry been out of town for a bit.

it nice the see everyone going for popular stuff too. i can totally understand why people are getting pissed off with the shonen stuff. as much as i love one piece, naruto and bleach, they do kind of drag on. i'll still keep watching them though datte bayo

Furi Kuri - I usually dig random lunacy, but this thing just felt like dumb lunacy

there is a story in there some where.

Yeah, I noticed. ;) That's why I hated it so much - it had this really good, serious story going - good enough to stand on its own without all the random robots and other silly stuff - so why not go with it? One of the creators even noted that the robots were added as an afterthough, "just because we wanted robots in there." That's what the fans love about the show, I gather; personally I felt the weirdness ruined the story, as opposed to complimenting it. :?

Oh and, Excel Saga FTW! :p ^o^ Hail Lord Il Palazzo! ^o^

....zzoo *cough cough*

Wonder how many are on this list not because they are bad or you don't like them, but because they were either over hyped or missrepresented.
Anyway my contenders are:
Patlabor 3- Had so little to do with the series it was practically a different series.
Boogiepop Phantom- horror my furry arse, bored through out.
The Endings of Nasesico, Evangelion, and Full Metal Alchemist

I probably wouldn't dislike Spirited Away so much if it werent for the hype basically claiming it as the best anime ever. I still wouldn't like it but I don't think it would be as vehemently as I do.

Boogiepop thrived more on the mystery elements of the story and in that respect worked very well.

Yeah what is it with that? I'm not the biggest Miyazaki fan but even by his standards it isn't that great. Why do you have middle aged guys like Jonathan Ross proclaiming it as this great work of art?

Is this a case of 'I don't like it because it's mainstream' kinda thing?

No. I Just don't like a lot of fairytale fantasy stuff and in that movie you're bombarded with it. Plus the fact that it is LOOOOOOOOOOOONG like all Ghibli movies.

No the issue is quality. I don't judge anime by the nature of the fanbase like others do.

Well ignoring the other parts of it - that is one of the main reasons i like it. I have always found that you cannot tell a decent story in 90minutes. 2 1/2 hour films are 9 times out of 10 better for me due to that exact reason that some depth can be introduced.

Well I think you can when the material is strong enough. Satoshi Kon's work is proof of that.

Objectively the material is strong enough though.

I don't think I'll ever get people who criticize the quality and direction of Ghibli movies. They are world class films. If you want a movie that's long, boring, poorly directed etc then look no further than Advent Children.
