Anime Legend Outlaw Star Box Set To Cost £40?

Beez currently believe the likely price of Anime Legend Outlaw Star Box Set release will be £40. They are currently unsure however If they will release the whole 26 episode series in one box set for £39.99 box set or split the series into two £19.99 13 Episode Box Set. They are currently looking into the matter.

I've been waiting so long for this, so I'm already more than willing to pay the (likely) £40 for it (I payed £52-ish for The Elfen Lied boxset). If given the choice, I would rather it was compiled into one nice boxset

These are RRP's, no? If that's the case, hopefully they would drop to the easier to stomach £30.

Correct, so it will be out at a cheaper price but I won't dare to guess what that discount price will be as it that's in the hands of retailers to decide.

I have mixed feelings about this.

First things first: It's a guaranteed sale as far as I'm concerned. Region 2 Outlaw Star is mighty coup, and I'm happy - no - eager to support it.

I'd also like to see it all in one box for a set price.

What I'm not so at ease with is how a show at this price bears the Anime Legends branding. The brand should be synonymous with value for money anime at a budget price.

I've said this before, and I'll restate it: Anime Legends box set RRPS have been:

Eureka Seven part one: £24.99.

Gundam SEED part one: £24.99

Wolf's Rain complete series: £24.99

So, Outlaw Star at £40 kinda concerns me.

That said, I'm behind this release in a big way. I want it to be a success for Beez. I want it to make money for them If it does well, maybe - just maybe - we'll see some other shows previously unavailable in the UK given a similar treatment.

Ultimately, I'd like to think the Anime Legends line could become a fertile avenue for older features and shows to get an airing / re-release in the UK. Things like Wings Of Honneamise, The Venus Wars... and some keenly priced box sets of those elusive Japanese Gundam shows would be nice additions.

(Have I mentioned those Gundam shows before? Have I? ;) )

The operative word there is if it was. Odds are it will be a one set release though for £24.99 like all the other AL titles - and if it was RRP at 19.99 it'd be on sale online for at least £14.99 anyway making the two sets just under £30 total :).

Andrew,
Off for some sleep soon he hopes.

Sounds fair enough. Considering the discounts I see around I wouldn't be surprised to see it dropping to £25. I mean other Anime Legends are set at £25, yet I've seen it drop to nearly 50% sometimes. 25% is the usual discount, so I'd expect to see it at £30 right off the bat. I'd say £25 (discounted) would be the ideal price for a series this old.

Andrew, do you have any idea whether you'll be using the remastered Japanese video? Bandai's R1 release, like a lot of early DVDs, uses composite masters and looks pretty awful by today's standards.

There's probably a lot of US fans who would be interested in Outlaw Star with remastered video.

As a matter of fact, the other shows you've mentioned are re-releases, therefore money has been earned on those before, which makes it way easier to release then at the RRP's you've mentioned. If the trends continues and we see more shows previously unreleased, getting the boxset format straight away, I can actually see it succeeding well, as those of us who are looking for them will be likely to buy on release and those who only have a light interest, can wait for the price to drop, which will occur (hopefully) after Beez actually started to make a profit out of it.

As for it to be an Anime Legend title, I can actually see it happening like this and having the RRP40 instead of the usual 50 they charge for non anime legend titles, exactly because of that.

Please tell me the "if" in your previous post is about the price, not about the odds of having it released...

In fairness Gundam, Eureka and Wolf's Rain have already been released here and Outlaw is not only a new release but a fairly old show, unlikely to attract as many casual anime buyers out there, so I think the price is justified in recouping any potential losses, plus it's still cheaper than Gundam 00 or Code Geass complete

There's some funny business regarding materials just now that we're in the process of sorting out (frustrating the production manager) - which is delaying the release no end (frustrating me).

We're looking into it just now anyway so watch this space :).

Again with the ifs but if it was the old material it'd be the regular AL price point for it.

I actually meant we'd split it as Outlaw Star Part 1: £19.99 and Outlaw Star Part 2: £19.99 in the case of having to use the remastered material. Which would be 13 eps per half and still in line with the brand then as those would be the RRPs only.

I hope so too on that front, I'm testing the waters now though and we'll see how to proceed from here!

It's about the price, don't worry - we licensed it so plan to release it!

Andrew

I happy with the price being the RRP of £40 and the actual being 25-30. As for it being released in two sets, I would prefer it being released as one box set. With newer more expensive stuff like Gurren, Geass and 00 I want it split so I could pay out the money in parts but with a 26 ep show at a good price, I think the one off release would be better.

Thanks for your response. That's about all I could hope for :)

I hope it has an RRP of £24.99,. However, I'm going to buy it anyway. I love Outlaw Star. However, I would prefer it to be released as one boxset, or, if they have to be separated - that there isn't too long to wait between releases.

I loved the Anime Legends Gundam SEED sets. I just hope one day that the original Mobile Suit Gundam is released in Anime Legends...I only got to watch half of it when Crunchyroll had it for a while.

I'm just glad its being released at all. It's been on my to buy list for years but the pain of importing has stopped me. Thankfully it's finally going to get released and it can go off my "would have to buy from amazon.com" list, which now only consists of the two G Gundam anime legends sets and the two remaining Gundam OVAs, not including War in the Pocket (which I brought at the start of the year).

Whoops! I missed out on replying to posts here thanks to the crippling back-ache i've been afflicted with today. Gonna make a few general responses here:

The point on SEED, Wolf's Rain and Eureka being re-releases is a good one - and rest assured it's not something that was lost on me!

It's ultimately my hope, as I said earlier in the thread, that Beez enjoy success with the Anime Legends line and are able to expand the list of titles in theor catalogue as a result. Broadening the selection of available shows for UK / European anime fans can only be a good thing. I'm jazzed to hear that Andrew and I have similar hopes for the line.

With regard to my nitpicking over Outlaw Star:

Use of remastered materials? That's GOOD! Does a lot to justify the proposed asking price in my mind.

Release as two seperate volumes? That's tolerable, but not ideal in my book. I'd rather have it in one nice box, all self contained. But if putting it out in two chunks equates to more sales, hell yes, I'm all for that!

Oh, and Gundam original series on Anime Legends? Do want! Affordable as opposed to cheap, blah blah, Gundam X, blah, ZZ Gundam, blah... stop me if you've heard this before! ;)
