Anime insults

I don’t mean insults in anime ie ‘baka’, but the insults flung at anime.

A work colleague has just told me that he recorded a Japanese animated film that was on BBC4 at the weekend. He said it got five stars and is highly rated. I asked him what it was (knowing full well already – Spirited Away) and he said “I don’t know, some Japanese Tom & Jerry thingâ€

Unfortunately what my colleagues call anime isn't good reading, so I won't put it here :p basically it either gets called Pokemon, pornography or both! And the annoying thing is they've never watched a minute of 'proper' anime in their lives - so what gives them the right to judge it like that? That's what always irks me.

I get it at college, you arent the only ones.

Couple of guys cant understand how i can watch so much and they just think i watch Hentai non stop... they havent watched even 2 minutes of an episode of proper anime other than pokemon...

"Japanese dog porn"
"Cartoon porn"
"Manga = Japanese perverted old man"

Etc.

I don't care, most of the people who say that anyway are fags.

You guys must know some people with real ****** attitudes-- in general.

As to my knowledge, I've never heard anyone say anything like the above, EVER. Worst I ever got when the subject of anime came up, was 'it's ****' or '******* boring', but these are clearly people who are either stupid cocks who chain-view the Matrix, as it's clearly the best film ever, or just assholes who (I'm guessing) make the above generalisations without actually saying them, thus don't plan on watching it any time soon.

All the guys in my college have watched at least a few series each; few of them even watch different stuff regularly.

Lucky I guess. XD

just mentioning liking anime or manga at my school makes you fair game for any and all insults, heres a few i've had:
hentai
animated porn
pokemon
backwards books

i could go on but....
what really irritates me is when i am just chatting with one of the other 4 anime fans in my school(including me!)when one of those people, usually a chav, starts accusing me of being into hentai or being obsessed with pokemon, but this doesnt happen often.Usually, these people are ignorant to the point of stupidity and come out with idiotic things like "cowboy bebop......is that porn?"(note: these are the same people who once asked in a set one gcse computer class "what's a database?!" and once "what's a computer?!" honestly, it's suprising how they lived this long  )all you can do is be happy that you are more cultured than them and try and ignore it.ok, rant over! ^_^

I don't give a crap what people say about it. If they haven't watched any, or very little, then they are ignorant, and therefore, not worthy of my time.

 In my school we get it a bit, not as bad though. Tbh most people are more likely to insult what you wear  But on the other hand ive been told im a freak cause im 'too old for cartoons now'

The worse i've got in the past was "Anime? isn't that just japanese porn?" and "Your weird for watching those cartoons" and that was from a girl i liked during college. I don't listen to people like that though, they don't know what they are missing

Wow.

You're honestly telling me people have asked you that, and not just embellishing their stupidity?

F***ing amazing.

Yeah, well, I've got really bad reputation now for bringing in ideas for art by introducing Gothic Lolita stuff with French maid outfits, yet we see them all the time on anime. I just thought it was a fashion trait (granted I knew french maids are also perversed on...), but they are now worried about my tastes... Granted, none of this is anime-specific, but it's something similar about a Japanese/foriegn thing that people really mis-understand.

I neither notice, nor care what others think. I just be honest with myself and if the occational fan notices the same fandom, then we talk. I've had it pretty good with reactions so far, even at school. Pokemon cards were just becoming a fad, and we all played it.

So I've not had it rough, compared to what some of you had. And I agree, if they don't know anything about anime, they should shut up, find out, or if they're obviously just being stuck-up, they should be smacked.

The most I ever get from work mates, is "your just like a litle kid, well at least those cartoons keep you quiet"

All they seem to get called is cartoons by people and yes the porno name gets thrown around by mates alot too

i'm more or less in the same boat as kurogane

(hope you don't mind mate)

but most of my mates are cool with it. whether it be a Ghibli film or mass franchise like Pokemon. I just happen to watch the better stuff

the only blagging I get is usually from my mother, but then she doesn't have to watch it

When i was in 6th form about 3/4 years back we watched Spirited Away in film studies, we had 2 teachers for different days. One (who was showing us the film) was amazed by it, it was like he'd never seen anime before.
Whilst my other teacher came in and said 'japanese animation? isn't that all full of porn'
She was a cracking teacher though, just a little un educated in the ways of anime.

Never had any insults for watching it though.

My dad refuses to watch it, but he refuses to watch cartoons just because of the 'for kids' preconception, the whole family sat down to watch Howls Moving Castle and he wouldn't have any of it lol.

Since i came to uni, i've heard nothing about it at all, but back in high school a lot of people just dissed anime all the time, some never seeing any, some having seeing very little and assuming its for kids or its some form of porn. It was annoying but as noone goes on about it here its fine.

I managed to persuade my mum to go the cinema to watch Howl's Moving Castle - although it wasn't quite 'Japan's Disney' (as I'd vaguely promised), she still enjoyed it and I think she has a better opinion of it than before.

It's just getting people over the hump of misconceptions and making them see the light.

College is fine with.
Parents don't give a crap.
Hell my college has an anime club.
My class has 4 anime fans in it(2 creepily obsessed with ones) and there are others around the campus.

Today a friend brought in the Loveless manga to read.A male friend called it 'one of those retarded backwards books'.Then began the string of 'THATS a guy?!' hah

Mayn, I wish I was in your college.

All I have is a guy who watches One Piece [who's cool btw] and an obsessed Death Note Yaoi fanatic [male btw] ;_;

Apparently there's some guy who hearts Gantz and some other stuff, but I've never actually asked him when I see him around. Y'know, I have my doubts it's that very person, I'll look like a tit too if I go to up to him and say "Do you like Gantz!?" And it isn't him "Eh, Gantz, wtf is that?" So yeah.
