A Crowdfunding website for animation: Anipipo

The Boss
AnimeAnime
reported the initial appearance of AniPipo - A website based in Tokyo and Bangkok that will specialises in funding animation. Currently, the website is collecting emails to gather the interest on the project, but it already receive funds from both Japan and Thailand. With KickHeart's success, this avenue may be opened for more and more Japanese animators in the future.

I'm really hoping that someone will use one of these systems to commission a sequel to some obscure one-shot OAV from the '80s or early '90s. It would just amuse me if the likes of California Crisis or Prefectural Earth Defense Force suddenly got a follow-up, all these years later.

An anime alternative to kickstarter would actually work well. Take Kickstarter at the moment. Kick-Heart is about to get funded and only really made it into the amount it needed. The issue i'm seeing with it being on kickstarter here was that it was thrown to a western audience. If it was thrown to both a western and eastern audience would it have got funded faster? or rather, how much would it have made?

I'm not trying to suggest it's a bad thing it went to kickstarter, even though it may sound it a little, hah, but i think it might not have been the best place. Last week i took a bit of a look through the site at the time and noticed, it has a very game-centric audience. Probably due to Double Fine bringing it to the front of the gaming industry, but i feel that may have hurt some other funding ideas(even in art and tech, the projects with some game element to them have been funded the most). I can't say how well indigogo is though as it's only one i've seen in passing, but it seems to focus more on the film and video industry more. So yeah, i'd say this is nice to see, and hopefully a good sign of things to come.

My only question though, can we fund it here?

Forget followups - someone finish Sol Bianca already!

Can't wait to see what projects come from this endeavour. Wonder if i'll be seeing any of the animators i follow on twitter try their hands at directing :D
