Vampire Ninja
Today is the 21st Anniversary of Dragonball Z!!!

HOORAY!!! Bring out the party hats and beer!

Dragonball Z first aird in Japan in 1989 on April 26! It became very popular worldwide, and its easy to see why. It has Action, romance, comedy, drama you name it!

I remember first watching Dragonball Z. At first i hated it. But i started to watch more episodes and it blew my mind away completely!

Heck i remember all the cool fight scenes! Goku vs Frieza. Those 2 badass mother f****rs fought for like 15 episodes!!! No other anime had a fight that long!

Majin Buu who was probably the oddest villain in Dragonball Z soon became my favourite anime villain.

Goku was the insperations for Naruto and Luffy! and hes probably the strongest anime character ever! hes one gangster you dont wanna mess with.

Now i know most of you reading this will be like "oh its just a silly dbz fanboy going on about how loves Dragonballs!!" but to be honest, i am a Dragonball Z fanboy. and im proud of it! Because Dragonball Z was one of the very first anime i saw and influinced me heavily. DBZ is what made me want to do a Art and Media course so that maybe one day ill make my own comic/manga. So i hope you can forgive me for posting all this. I just wanted to show my appreciation to a anime i love. Well anyway thanks for reading!

DRAGON DRAGON! ROCK THE DRAGON! DRAGONBALL Z!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The start of the series to Frieza was good, after though...? Not worth talking about. Red Ribbon Army saga was the BEST. I mean... Tao Pai Pai picked up a pillar and threw it then jumped on it to travel like 100 miles, you know you're dangerous when you can do that.

Can't see this as a positive, sorry.

It isn't

I'm just over three months older than this franchise. It should seem that I'm not flicked through with quite the same degree of enthusiasm however. Those wishing to satisfy their Shōnen thirsts would be ill-quenched by turning my pages at their leisure, and I fear that passing me through a printing press would do little to aid my reading audience.

Don't worry about it Sanji, DBZ is a good series.

Anyone over the age of 16 remembers this series well, yes the fights where abit too long for comfort but a couple of months back i bought series 1 to 3 of DBZ (nostalgia moment) and found that the fights could have been a few eps shorter, but 15eps for 1 fight - whether they be a good fight or not. Is still one of the longest amounts of time for just one fight in the history of Anime, thats something they can claim atleast :p

21 years and still a big hit
and i'm still buying merchandise
i wonder how many more times i'm going to buy the dvds, i've got random 1s of the original releases, all the orange boxsets the dragonboxes so far and soon the kai 1s lol and thats just Z series

its 1 series i can watch again and again

I wanted to pick DBZ again and see if I can still feel the same way I did when I originally seen it or if I'd think it's silly.

First time around watching it, the 15 eps fighting scene didn't bother me at all. All the flying around did though. Perhaps Kai is the way to go?

I'm 15 and remember when the show was on. :D
Except, when they stopped showing it, I forgot about it until I saw that Dragonball Evolution was coming out.

Anyway, the fight was really long in the manga, too, because it was originally going to be the end, but Akira Toriyama continued it because of fan demand

Dragon Ball Z is THE ultimate anime for those with only a few brain cells to rub together. None of the character development/emoing in Naruto and similar, more advanced titles - just battles that play out slooooowly.

I watched the first 20 or so episodes awhile back. It was quite entertaining, but the lack of brain activity required did bother me a little... I prefer Gankutsuou, personally.

You don't watch DBZ for the plot, you watch it for the awesome action scenes.
It's a bit like watching ecchi for the plot and not the panty shots

Uppa reminisces as the screen begins to go all wavy like.

I suspect I would have found the protracted fights a tad more irksome if I had been watching on a weekly basis--but given a new episode was aired each day, I found Dragonball Z's lengthy battles quite enthralling. They were certainly helped by the fact that the characters were always moving, and impressive animation was a near certainty. No doubt, the art-work was sometimes unimpressive--but the characters never seemed static or poorly animated.

In a sense, I don't think many contemporary series could get away with sprawling 15-episode battles; too many are plagued with stiff and unconvincing animation sequences, save for a select number of episodes. I forgive Dragonball Z for its extended bouts--they were never sore on the eyes.

Like I said, it's the perfect anime for those with an IQ score that's lower than three digits.

My IQ is, of course, on the higher side. I even need a semi-decent story to get off on porn, meaning Battle Vixens doesn't do it for me.

Yup. :/ But haters gonna hate, it's unblockable.

Dragon Ball remains both the greatest story ever told, and the one true shounen action series to stand the test of time and space.

Is that irony? I wouldn't cite DBZ for story.

When this aired on Cartoon Network EVERYBODY in school was talking about it - cool kids, otaku etc.

The fight scenes would drag on and be full of yelling, powering up, punching, blasting and they would drag on, testing my patience. Then you would watch an episode like the one involving Goku learning to drive.

The videogames were great.

Maes doesn't do sarcasm. He does, however, do idiocy just fine. That's why I like him, despite the love he holds for children.

Naruto is deeper, by the way. DBZ doesn't have homosexual overtones due to the length one guy goes to in order to save his best friend/future gay lover. As entertaining as DBZ can be, it's too shallow without there being any real emotional depth.
