Serious answer though: people can't get into anime for one of two reasons - either they can't get past social conditioning telling them that cartoons are for children, or they just generally don't enjoy watching watching fictional stories on the screen. I'm not sure there's anything you can do...

That is way worse than I assumed. Kickstarter isn't meant to be an alternate store front, it's meant to get your initiative going ("kickstart it", if you will). Using it this way sucks.

I would guess the opposite - that they expect it sell very poorly at a regular price, given its age and quality/size of fanbase.
