The Gaming News Thread (for news that doesn't need a thread)

Another trailer is out for Atelier Karia along with some new info on the game's website:

Here is a short interview on Final Fantasy VII Revelation which states the game will be around 200 GB:

Assuming they fill the one disc of the physical edition, at most that is still only 100 GB of data, so there will be another 100 GB to download. The answer to the question about digital versus physical and how they have more time to finalize a digital version makes me wonder if that one disc will even include much of the game, but instead be the functional equivalent of Nintendo's game key cards.

Either way, I am not at all happy. I can't download a 100 GB file. Not everyone's internet is reliable enough, fast enough, and without a data cap to allow for such. Do these gaming companies not understand this? Or do they just not care? I find it especially depressing for this particular game, because I will be forever stuck with only two out of three parts of it. This is coming out long before Sony is ending disc production, so it's Square Enix's decision to not release a multi-disc package, unless Sony is also enforcing some kind of constraints or limitations on multi-disc games.

@Spark_Heal apparently Caladrius 2 had a playable demo at Tokyo Game Show, but it's always hard to find any coverage of more niche titles like this so I haven't found anything beyond one short blurry video taken of someone playing it at the show.

Luminous Avenger iX3 was also there and I did stumble upon a single video for that one:

A showcase for Year Two of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has been released.

Collaborations with Godzilla and Neon Genesis Evangelion had already been revealed prior as paid DLC and Bayonetta had been announced as a free character previously as well.

For new announcements, on the free side there will be a collaboration with McLaren Racing as well as Aigis from Persona 3 coming to the game with more free characters to come (these have all been from SEGA owned properties previously).

On the paid DLC side we have Hello Kitty / Sanrio and SEGALAND (featuring a track celebrating SEGA with vehicles modelled on SEGA arcade cabinets).

And as a teaser for the last two packs of Year Two, one will be Persona themed, specifically that it will relate to P3R, P4R and P5R and the big one will be the Final Fantasy VII Remake series which I am ecstatic about. Store listings mention both of these packs will contain two characters so I'd say it is likely for Persona it will be the protagonists of P3 and P4 seeing as we already have Joker in the game and FF7 will have Cloud and Sephiroth as the teaser showed both the Buster Sword and black feathers.

For a bonus for buying the second year season pass you will receive vehicles based on the Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast and for those who own both season passes you will recieve Super Shadow as a playable character.

Year Two is a hundreds times better than Year One IMO as outside of Mega Man and Pac-Man, I really wasn't feeling it and I don't even dislike the likes of Minecraft, Spongebob, TMNT and Avatar (admittedly I'm yet to watch Avatar but I respect it).

For future free characters I am hoping we will get some more Sonic characters as well as some missing SEGA classics such as Ulala from Space Channel 5, Beat from Jet Set Radio and Billy Hatcher as they were staples in previous Sonic racing games.

The lack of Ulala has been really disappointing, and them showing a Space Channel 5 themed section on the Segaland track just made that feel even worse. I've felt that both the free and paid DLC characters have been a really mixed bag. I also thought Megaman and Pac-Man were fine, TMNT was ok but I'd have preferred another version of the characters, and I thought Minecraft and Spongebob were lame and out of place. And on the free side, Angry Birds? Really? As far as the more expected Sega characters that's of course up to personal tastes, but I'd much rather have had Ulala over AiAi or Amigo. Miku, the Yakuza characters and Joker were fine as was classic Sonic but the rest didn't personally do anything for me. I also thought they should have done Sarah and Jacky or Akira from VF, who I believe were in one of the earlier games too. I agree that so far the year two characters seem a big improvement overall.

I really wish they would add voices for the additional characters. I do not understand why they cannot do this at least for the Sega characters.

M2 did a livestream for the 10th anniversary of their M2ShotTriggers series, and had several announcements. Senxin Aleste was announced for PS5, PS4 and Switch with the PS4 version being digital-only. Release date is 18/3/2027.

Very short promo video:

Some gameplay of the new Senxin Aleste Blade arrange mode is in the stream starting at this timestamp:

Raizing's Armed Police Batrider was also announced, no platforms or date given. Short promo:

Some gameplay from the livestream:

Console versions of Devil Blade Reboot, currently only on Steam were also announced. Specific platforms were not given, but they played a PS4 version. Promo:

A Data East collection of two games, Edward Randy and The Great Ragtime Show (also called Boogie Wings I think?) was in the livestream but doesn't have other info yet. Platforms and a release date were not given, but the version being played shows A and B button prompts, so it's not a PlayStation version being shown. I"ve heard of Edward Randy, which if I recall was announced for the Japanese Sega Saturn but never happened. I have never seen the game before and had no idea what it was but it looks very interesting. Gameplay:

For me personally, Armed Police Batrider is one of the best announcements of this year.

This has been the worst part of the DLC for Crossworlds. So much of the personality of the game comes through the banter between racers, and that's missing for all the DLC characters except Miku. I can kind of understand them cheaping out and not hiring voice actors for the free characters, but not voicing the paid DLC characters is really aggravating.

I'm also annoyed that they've put the second season pass up for sale when they still haven't released the final part of the first pass. That said, I'm inevitably going to pay for the second season pass because Godzilla.

I gave this a like even though I don't really know what you're talking about because (you mentioned) Godzilla :P

I might misremember as I haven't played the game in a while, but I don't think even Miku has anything said at the start of a race when you normally get the exchange with your rival. She has the little quips while playing when doing tricks and such that none of the other additional characters have though.

Even if they didn't pay to have new voice lines recorded, which I can somewhat understand, there have to be existing voice clips for like catchphrases and such they could have used and wouldn't be as expensive as a new recording session. I think the DLC is pretty expensive, especially now that they permanently lowered the price of the game. The base game is now £34.99 (digitally but I believe they lowered physical as well) while each season pass is £24.99 or individual pieces are £4.99 each. Given that pricing, not having any voices is even harder to understand.

Now that they're making it where the extra characters show up as other drivers in races it may be even more noticeable. While I like that they are doing that, it is also kind of a negative for me with the characters I don't think belong in the game like Angry Birds. Currently I can forget that is there but if it starts showing up as a CPU driver in the races then that's no longer the case.

Sega DLC does typically eventually get significant discounts in sales; I don't know if they've had any of this game's DLC on sale yet though. I haven't bought any of the DLC so far. I'll consider Megaman and Pac-Man at a sale price but I'd be more likely if it was voiced. As for Season 2, I'd consider Godzilla, Segaland, and FFVII. Maybe Persona though I haven't liked what they've done with the remakes of 3 and 4 so that taints that one a bit for me.
