What did you RECEIVE today? PHOTOS EDITION!

In fairness to Crane, I've always been deeply suspicious of men called Vic: my friend's dad was a Vic, as a kid, and I had a catchy nickname for him. He was a creep. Ancedotal, of course, so take this with a pinch of 🧂. Also, never been too fond of Ed, either: too much offa Napoleon complex. I'm more a Roy Mustang/Winry sorta guy, y'know?

That aside, I actually received something, like, today. 'Tis a film I watched as a wee one (that's probably terrible) on VHS that I felt the need to acquire. For some reason.

Mortal Wombat a much better film, for sure. So much macho manliness arriving in quick succession though... 🫦💪🍆 "HE WILL ERASE UR PAST TO PROTECT UR FUTURE" -- he erases lives, to save lives. A troo man.

Managed to get a decently priced though worn and marked second hand copy of Coffin: The Art of Vampire Hunter D. A collection of Yoshitaka Amano. Collecting a lot of his illustrations and covers for the first dozen or so VHD novels. It’s in decent enough shape and I’m glad to have it despite more recent art books covering more content (you’d assume his done another few dozen VHD novels by now). You get a lot of full pieces, black and white or colour and a few sketches that are fun.

The Quarantine Sketchbook by Mike Mignola - During the pandemic Hellboy creator Mike Mignola was drawing during lockdown and raising money for World Central Kitchen. The art was all collected into a hardcover by Dark Horse Comics to raise more funds but that means you can only get it second-hand now. Which is a shame. I've been reading more of Mignola's stuff lately and I had to shell out a lot for this oversized collection. It's nice. Mignola has all sorts of weird and fun creatures and interpretations of popular characters (this is the most I've ever seen someone draw The Thundercats). At his best when he's drawing old-timey outfits on weird creatures. It's where you get the best sense of his skills illustrating weight and posture.

After about five years my messenger bag is starting to show it's age with one of the magnetic fasteners being pulling off and one of the zips starting to fall apart, so I decided to get a smaller and cheaper replacement just to carry the essentials until I could get a bag that's bigger.

I received one anime steelbook from DeepDiscount today, and it is a bit more than what I was expecting. It comes with a thick 104 page booklet with sections for Character Designs, Episode Recaps, Four interviews with the Director, Music director, Episode director, and Prop Design, and a 70 page manga. The steelbook and booklet are both tucked inside a fat plastic slipcover:

From Vinted and a car boot sale

Birthday Wonderland (CE) and Tekken 6 (PS3)

Note: The green on the hair on Birthday Wonderland isn't actually on the box, it must be from a reflection, I had to double check my copy though just in case I missed a mark.

I did own the standard edition of Birthday Wonderland originally but as I had the CE's of all the other Keiichi Hara movies that AL have released, I thought I might as well complete the set. I do hope AL can license Colorful at some point, it's the only of his movies I haven't seen or own.

I didn't find much at the car boot outside of some PKMN cards but Tekken 6 for £4.00 was a steal and in great condition, couldn't pass on it, especially with PS3 games raising in price now. I enjoy the Tekken series as well and never really touched 6 so will be good to play at some point.

Got the first two Kazuma Kaneko artbooks, these cover his earliest work with the Shin Megami Tensei franchise back in the 90s. He was the chief character designer of the series for many years but he was not the first person to have the position. So you see a few creatures he redesigned and then constantly tweaks going forward. The pages are on incredibly high quality paper that really helps the colours and inking shine through.
