The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

I grew up with the Indigo league and the orange islands and loved it, but me watching Pokemon kinda fizzled out from that point on.
Recently I've been rewatching a bit and the itch grew to watch something new. I've read that sun and moon is disliked because the style is so different, but that is what makes me curious about it. And when I was a child, I always wanted to hang out with pokemon more than I wanted to fight with them and it seems that this series is more about slice of life and worldbuilding. Plus the tropical theme fits the current temperatures:). So I'm kinda hyped! The only weird thing is that I could only find a bluray version of the middle collection, whats up with that?

I absolutely LOVED Sun & Moon - it's seriously one of my favourite shows ever. When I first saw the change in style, I was a bit disappointed (mostly because I really really liked XYZ and SM was very different) but when I actually started watching it, I liked it immediately.

It's definitely more "slice of life" than the other Pokemon seasons until then. My least favourite parts of the previous seasons were the tournaments and contests that went on for multiple episodes with no real story, so it was nice to have a break from them! The supporting cast is made up of a nice variety of characters (including some quirky Pokemon) and Team Rocket are very amusing too.

I hope it gives you hours of enjoyment!

As soon as Sentai Filmworks revealed their Summer Sale I immediately sorted out my order. Been anticipating this for a while now.

So what exactly did I go for:
  • 2.5 Dimensional Seduction Season 1 (Steelbook)
  • Akiba Maid War (Steelbook)
  • The Ambition of Oda Nobuna
  • Azumanga Daioh
  • Chained Soldier Season 1 (Steelbook)
  • The Perfect Insider
  • Trinity Seven
Let's start with Akiba Maid War. You probably know already that I do indeed own Anime Limited's collector's edition but ever since Sentai revealed their steelbook release I felt buyer's remorse because their version was not only better but is also the same size as the UK standard edition so it works out. I do plan to get rid of my UK copy (amongst other titles) but not yet figured it out how to sort out the process.

Next we have the other two steelbooks for two series that are on the top of my anticipated to-watch list. 2.5 Dimensional Seduction I do own the manga volumes but the anime looked like a lot of fun and there's a second season on the way which is neat. I do recall they have toned down the fanservice for the adaptation but it looks to be in good quality anyway. Chained Solider is a series that I shrugged at first but Season 2 images kept getting posted on social media and I'm like "I can't believe I'm missing out on peak fanservice" so while the steelbook is barebones in content, it may be rewarding when they eventually get around to Season 2.

Next we have the re-releases. Azumanga Daioh was re-released, this time for the Blu-ray format and I did watch this a long time ago so this will be another anime to add to my list of "I can now finally own a legal copy". It's a fun series and the manga was great too. Still surprised it was never released in the UK beyond the old ADV release. The Perfect Insider I'm also flagging because I have in fact seen the series but I think at the time it was probably too complex for my head so upon realising now that Inio Asano also provided the character designs for the show alongside the The Promised Neverland director and 86 EIGHTY SIX composition writer, I figured it'll be worth a revisit. Animatsu did release this on Blu-ray years ago but this re-release will have better discs.

The Ambition of Oda Nobuna is a 2012 series adapted by studios Madhouse (Frieren) and Gokumi (co-adapted World's End Harem) and has been on my radar since I first got into anime and it was neat that Sentai re-released the series with better discs. It's an time travel series where the MC is sent to historical Japan which was a common trope back then. Also a harem too. Speaking of harems, I finally ordered Trinity Seven which Manga/Animatsu released back in the day in the UK. I think this harem series tried to be popular and didn't exactly succeed but the premise and cast kept my intrigue, and the film didn't make it over to home video in the west either. Still I can finally check this one out thanks to the re-release.
