To be honest, as much respect as I have for Henson, Bowie and both movies, I'm confused why an anime company is releasing them. Yes, I know anime in Japan isn't as insular as 21st century westeners have made it but it feels like a real reach to be applicable.AL applying anime pricing to a live-action film like Labyrinth is a slippery slope for physical media collectors.
They 'just' about get away with it for anime because most understand the licenses are a nightmare and generally high to deter reverse importers in Japan.
But when you're asking £70 for a film you're opening the door to all the others to say 'hell our edition has way more stuff, why are we only charging £50'.
AL came in as THE boutique label for anime and they're steadily heading to be the ones that actual kill the collectors market with their insane prices.
Rant over, I'm sure some people will buy it but if you've got that money to throw away you might as well go balls out and get the one from the Bowie store that comes with a replica crystal![]()

Per some posts popping up on Instagram this evening, seems AL did an Akira event in London for influencers.
@Hanners Will there be a blu ray release of All You Need is Kill this year? I'm thinking if I have to import the US release in July.
Ah!This was a public event with some invited guests - it sold out before we got to promote it on our own channels though, such is AKIRA's popularity just now! ICA | AKIRA: Past and Present

Honestly doesn't bother me them releasing the movies, again I think we all understand its slim pickings out there in the anime world. To be honest, as much respect as I have for Henson, Bowie and both movies, I'm confused why an anime company is releasing them. Not quite in the UK, normal price point for a 4K steelbook is £30 - £35 (which they're at price wise) but the collectors editions standard is £50 - £55 normally with steelbook, rigid case, posters, postcards, booklet etc. They're actually normal price points for 4K steelbooks or collectors editions including a steelbook at RRP.
Though without discounts the US CEs are slightly cheaper and nicer.

Does one of the requirements of the role involve occasionally kicking the order management server, to prevent the queue from getting stuck?
In case anyone here wants to be a product manager, and enjoy being on the other side of all the "why haven't you released x yet?" complaints![]()
I made an order on 4 April for Crunchyroll releases using the coupon, which has not yet shipped.
This just goes to show that your online store is rather in need of updating to have some form of stock (or eta) indicator.Crunchyroll and MVM stock from the sale period is still incoming - there are a few items that we've needed to order additional stock in of (RE:Zero Season 2, Durarara and Cardcaptor Sakura notably), but there shouldn't be anything holding up any orders beyond that so reach out to our usual customer service channel so we can check on things otherwise!
I guess you’re currently winning (losing?)I made an order on 4 April for Crunchyroll releases using the coupon, which has not yet shipped.
I looked up the aforementioned (RE:Zero Season 2, Durarara and Cardcaptor Sakura), and they all just show the typical “add to cart” option, with no indication that they are not currently in stock or on backorder or even just a showing a text delay eta note.
I expect the third-party (crunchyroll / MVM) stuff might be a little less accurately predictable, but that shouldn’t stop there being some “stock on order” information.
At the very least, I think there that would be interest in the ones that had involvement by major Ghibli names like Heidi, 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother and Anne of Green Gables, as they were helmed by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. On that note, I think it’d be pretty cool if AL could release some more Osamu Dezaki shows like The Rose of Versailles and Dear Brother, which have received USBD releases by Discotek.@Hanners I was browsing a second hand site and saw that ALL the Anime France had released some Wold masterpiece theater anime in the past, like Tom Saywer and Nils Holgerson. Is this something that might happen in the uk as well in the future? Would love to own them!
Unlikely sadly - those shows have a long and successfully history in France, whereas they're practically unknown in the UK. Add in BBFC costs and it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense at this point in time.@Hanners I was browsing a second hand site and saw that ALL the Anime France had released some Wold masterpiece theater anime in the past, like Tom Saywer and Nils Holgerson. That'll be what's holding up my order then. Jolly good.Crunchyroll and MVM stock from the sale period is still incoming - there are a few items that we've needed to order additional stock in of (RE:Zero Season 2, Durarara and Cardcaptor Sakura notably), but there shouldn't be anything holding up any orders beyond that so reach out to our usual customer service channel so we can check on things otherwise!
