What did you RECEIVE today? PHOTOS EDITION!

IMG_20260127_195046.jpg
I was going to get the PS4 version and just buy the phantom liberty add on considering this version was constantly going out of stock, buy after it came back in stock at under £30 (which is less the the £15 for the PS4 version plus £25 for phantom liberty) I decided to go for it, so all I have to do is hope that the whole cross progression is true and I can resume the game from my now retired xbox series S.

January Haul #2

As mentioned before I had to work non-stop so today I got the day off, at the cost of catching a cold. These arrived last week on Mon 19th, Wed 21st & Thurs 22nd.

#4: Nobody Wants to Die & System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Edition
Two packages arrived on Mon 19th & Thurs 22nd from Limited Run Games, one of which arrived on time and another actually shipped early.

PS5 Haul 2026 - Nobody Wants to Die & System Shock 2 2.jpg

The first to arrive was System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Edition, a remaster of the classic 1999 sci-fi horror first-person shooter by Irrational Games & Looking Glass Studios which Nightdive Studios brought to modern platforms. While I have not yet played the first game (due to waiting on a patch to improve the PlayStation 5 version), I did play a bit of the second game on Steam years ago but I was too scared to continue it lol. Still, I find the franchise really fascinating so I want to check the games out sooner than later, though I know the first game is considered pretty difficult.

The remaster done by Nightdive Studios offers various features, with the most notable being online co-op on the entire campaign which is similar to the classic DOOM games and a really cool idea. There's also quality-of-life improvements, improved framerates, and enhanced animation and graphics. The physical version will also be available in Europe by Clear River Games which wasn't announced until the US release was dispatched.

The next game to arrive was Nobody Wants to Die, a 2024 sci-fi adventure game by Polish developer Critical Hit Games. This caught my eye from the moment it was announced and after playing it, I really enjoyed it. It is a fairly short game but has such a fascinating BioShock style vibe and the concepts are pretty original, especially the device you can use to rewind time during an investigation. You can find more of my thoughts on the game in the Gaming forum thread.

#5: Radiance Films Zavvi Haul
More European films were ordered from Zavvi focused on a couple releases that were on the Stock status list by Radiance Films themselves.

Häxan, Benjamin Christensen's 1922 film is the oldest film I own! This gothic silent film received a limited edition a while back which sold out and later received a special edition (which is the traditional limited edition sets but without the rigid box and a smaller booklet), but the discs carry over which includes five different versions of the film.

The first disc includes the 2006 score by Matti Bye and 1968 'Witchcraft through the Ages' alternate cut featuring narration by William S. Burroughs and Jean-Luc Ponty's score, and the second disc includes the 2007 scores by Bronnt Industries Kapital and Geoff Smith, the 1990 'Witchcraft through the Ages' French version featuring narration by Jean-Pierre Kalfon, and 'The Esoteric Cut' featuring English intertitles and Lawrence Leherissey's score.

La Terra Trema, Luchino Visconti's 1948 film is one of the earliest films produced in his catalogue and I knew of him thanks to Death in Venice which I don't own (Criterion have released it but I'm waiting on a potential 4K UHD given there's a 4K restoration). Surprisingly this is rated U so I'm curious to see how family friendly it is.

The Story of Adele H. (L'Histoire d'Adèle H.), François Truffaut's 1975 film is another MGM license that Radiance Film was able to release from the director's catalogue. The film stars Isabelle Adjani (Possession), Bruce Robinson (Romeo & Juliet) and Sylvia Marriott (101 Dalmatians).

Nice. I have that as well as one other Shaw Bros set to be up-to-date on their releases.

As much as I like 88 Films putting out Shaw Bros, Eureka handles them much better when it comes to space (and so does Arrow).
I’m a bit behind on Eureka Shaw Bros sets but will pick the ones I’m missing up eventually, albeit with some OOP pricing.

From what I’ve heard a few of the recent 88Films Shaw Bros releases also seem to lack commentaries etc. compared to the Shout Factory Classics set equivalents, plus these Classics sets are also rather compact despite having up to 12 films each. 88Films will continue to get plenty of purchases out of me elsewhere, though, as most of their recent output has been superb.

My Christmas order finally came!
Lupin 3rd The First - This is my first foray into this franchise and I’m excited to see what it’s all about.

Inuyasha Season 1 - I was just thinking about the Ocean cast the other day and realised how much I missed hearing their voices. Inuyasha is very nostalgic to me but drags a bit in the middle so I’ll probably just get season one, season two and The Final Act when it releases.

Magic Knight Rayearth - A bit disappointed the ironically named complete box set doesn’t come with the OVAs like Part 2 of the previous release but still cool to have. It’s been daring me to buy it for the past couple of Christmases.

Princess Jellyfish - Complete blind buy, but I’ve heard good things about it.

Missed the boat on these years ago. I remember season one being sold out in a Christmas sale before I could grab it and then passed on season two the following year because I didn’t have season one. Silly in hindsight. Still, I got ‘em!

Reincarated as a slime steelbooks are nice that they match, but compared to the orginal S1 steelbook feels a bit lack luster in art use (although the Sparkly eeffect I'm sure is better to see in person), but they have at least released more than just the 1st season as a steelbook this time around.
But collecting an actual full set of reincarnated as a slime is probably pretty tricky unless taking the standard edtion route (Orginal steel = S1 only and CE I think was 1st season was a US only, Edit: maybe season 3 too)

The Anime Limited Christmas order is here
anyone else find the Deiji Meets World release being in a different case (and adjusted sleeve) design weird? I haven't seen any other AL releases in this format.
Personally I think they should have made it so the AL Logo still lines up with other releases by putting something at the 'top' of the spin to keep the layout consistent.

From Zavvi’s 2 for £30 deal.

From Radiance Films’ recent flash sale - this was all hosted label titles from Raro Video (with a Grindhouse Releasing title thrown in for free postage). Several of these are now OOP on their website and were down to the last few units when the sale began.

And finally an 88Films UHD release via an eBay seller.

I think all Blu-rays world-wide should have come in that format with the clear cases and full-height coversheet since the very beginning of Blu-rays. I so despise the fugly standard blue blu-ray case with exposed top and Blu-ray banners. Yecch!

Yeah I really like these Scanavo cases, like the ones used for the Raro Video titles in my post above. More and more boutique labels are now using them for their releases, and they generally look nicer on the shelf for sure.
