UK Anime Distributor Crunchyroll/Funimation/Manga UK Discussion Thread

While I do agree, the £69.99 price point is in line with comparable sets nowadays, that's only because we're at a stage now in the boutique/collector's market where these are the going rates for these sorts of sets, and consumers have been conditioned to pay these prices (and I'm one of those consumers!).

So… who’s going to spend £80 on GTA6 for an empty box and a digital code?

EDIT: And nothing to resell once you’re tired of it.

Sailor moon Steel book- £300 @ 200 episodes ~ £1.50p/e

Dandadan S2 CE - £49 @ 12 Episodes - £4.08p/e

Dandadan S2 - £28 @ 12 Episodes - £2.33p/e

After the Rain- £30 @ 12 Episodes - £2.50p/e

So price wise I dont think Sailor Moon is bad value especially when you consider something like Attack on Titan has half the number of episodes but the steelbooks total around £200 (and thats a re-release set!)

I do think its been left a little late but I dont think £300 is a bad price at all

I'm not one of them! For me a release has to meet a certain price point or go on sale at some time or I'm simply gonna pass on that release.

For me, it depends. If it's a series I adore, then I'll pay going rates for releases. For example, more than happy to pay full whack for the Naruto and Naruto Shippuden sets because it's a series I love and will watch over and over again.

However, Sailor Moon less so as I don't have as much fondness or nostalgia for the series - so steeper discounts are necessary to tempt me. Someone who absolutely adores Sailor Moon will likely be more than happy to pay the full £70 per set because they want it and that's just the price of comparable sets nowadays, unfortunately.

I literally pre-ordered all the seasons as soon as they got listed on Amazon. Sailor Moon for me is peak fondness and nostalgia. But yes, for any other series I would prob not spend £70 per season.

Crunchyroll notoriously hasn't released yuri anime like The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady, Yuri Is My Job and This Monster Wants to Eat Me on blu-ray so I wonder if this means they also won't release Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk on blu-ray 😭

Or maybe they have a criteria that they only release shows that get at least x number of streaming views, and Yuri shows are niche enough that they never reach x views.

Really, it's not like they're just singling out Yuri shows; there's tons of stuff they're not bothering to release, some of it much better known and more popular than the shows Suzu wants. Frankly, whatever criteria they're using are so strict that it's really more surprising when they DO release a show; not releasing something is basically the default.

And Sony continues to wage war on physical media. A shop that sells Blu-rays? Can't let the riff-raff in.

The announcement makes it sound like they won't be selling blu-rays at all. It only mentions, "The new store reimagines our assortment to capture the excitement of convention-exclusive merchandise—collectables, curated drops, and limited-release products inspired by the anime series you love." Looks it may just be selling merch.

Sony's war on ownership is going full dystopia with all the announcements they've made this month. Deleting movies from people's digital collections. Killing physical releases for Playstation. Killing the PS3 and Vita stores. And now this.

I imagine somewhere at Sony HQ a guy in a suit has to meet a certain amount of mega fan subscribers increase for the next quarters and this is their idea of getting it...
What a bunch of BS...
