Defective or Disappointing UK Anime Discs

MovieZyng is setting up a replacement program for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Blu-ray because of the silent LFE channel on the English track: Blu-ray Forum - View Single Post - Scott Pilgrim Takes Off: The Complete Limited Series MovieZyng is the webshop of Allied Vaughn, the producer and distributor of Universal Pictures MOD releases in the US.

The UK release should use the same disc. You'd probably have to contact the UK distributor Spirit Entertainment for a replacement.

I made a quick video to test my UK disc and it appears to have the issue. Hopefully someone can have a quick check and confirm it too but I used the OP for an episode and switched language track a few times and it’s clear to me the audio is less punchy when ENG is selected (I have a 5.1 setup but not expensive equipment, the cheapest Denon receiver at the time, Mission M Cube speakers and a borrowed KEF sub after mine developed an issue).

Bonus cat tax in the intro :)

In-step with the above mislabeling, I have some work for @Roy. 'Tis fortuitous you made this topic for me.

I don't think it's widely known as few buy CEs to actually watch anime but there's been a major 🐓-up with the UK AoT final season steelbook. I learned about it via Amazon reviews--there are only 6 ratings. A user posted this illustration of 🐓ery... which makes it more confusing tbh. But as I'm much too lazy to do my own diagram, heyho(e)~

The TLTR is, the first 3 discs are correct. The last 4 are all mislabeled. I confirmed this myself:

Disc 6 is disc 4.
Disc 7 is disc 5.
Disc 4 is disc 6.
Disc 5 is disc 7.

I suggest everyone that pre-ordered checks so we can arm ourselves with e-pitchforks.

Not sure whoooo to complain to given CR have no staff on AUKN. Thus, I'm complaining to Roy. That is all.

Does anyone know if there was any update to this getting corrected discs or if the U.S. steelbook have the same problem, I'd like to get it eventually if there is a fix or opt for the U.S. version if that is unaffected.

My brother ordered the steelbook from anime online only to receive an email that there would be a delay in delivery due to a product recall. A month later it was dispatched with I hope now corrected discs. Unfortunately he hasn't seen the series so he doesn't know what to look for to confirm it's corrected.

Thank You! that's good to hear!

Back in the day, Manga Entertainment sent out unfinished discs for review when it came to Naruto Shippuden Box Set 25 DVD. It had no menus and was dub only.

Today I finally watch the retail discs, and episode 320, Run, Omoi! has a big ass fault on it. The opening theme flashes a white screen for half the song. Tried it in DVD via Scart and BD via HDMI and it’s the same on both. But it’s something the disc is telling the player to do, cos the image is on the disc and you can see it when you pause and slow mo through the OP.

Was the GuP Anzio Bluray audio quality always terrible or is it my setup?

I'm half way through GuP so switched to the Anzio disk and its much quieter and nowhere near as clean as the series audio

Dub or Sub?

I watch the Japanese audio and I had no issues with that, albeit through a 5.1 home theatre setup.
Thanks for the reply and info as you sorted it for me

Both Sub and Dub were causing the issue.

With your mention of 5.1 I decided to see if I can force my player into stereo mode by changing "Stereo Mode - Original" to "Stereo Mode - Stereo"

And it fixed it perfectly. Volume still a little low but audio is fine

Checking Other sources of titles it mentions Bluray FLAC 5.1 so I'm wondering if the UK bluray was also authored in 5.1 but there's something that should force it into stereo that gets ignored by my player

Weird as the case mentions both EN and JP is 2.0 audio

(Edit: Changing it from Original to Stereo on the title screen is also a huge audio improvement)

(Double Edit: Bluray com says its DTS-HD 5.1 whats really weird as its 2.0 on the box and no audio options on disk other than EN/JP. So I guess the disk just hopes the player will force audio rather than take from source?)
