UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

It’s 2026 now. Unless I’m mistaken, next month is the release date.
Which means come Xmas it probably won’t still be a pre-order, therefore no EB or redux of same.

Although yes; hopefully in some offer or discount.
Redux is simply going down to the EB price as far as I understand. Never needed to do it before, either bought the thing during EB or wasn't going to anyway.

EDIT: Just checked the redux list from last year and picked one I bought. TEKKONKINKREET went up for EB last January and I posted my dispatch notice in February. So went to EB redux 10 months after release. Now the Summer Wars release is May, but the EB was March so it might just about be eligible.

Oh boy what a cool announcement not at all suspiciously timed
Ironically, as someone who owns a VCR but not a 4K TV or a record player, this would have been one of the few recent AL releases I could have bought!

Hopefully they will be following up the joke with a real newswire soon. It's been three months since the last one.

Maybe the recently revealed Gkids DANDADAN S2 sets would be the headliners....

@Hanners what is the situation with Kakegurui Season 2? In 2021 AL said said that people have nothing to worry about regarding them releasing Kakegurui's second season only to never release it. Like, people expressed worry about AL not releasing Kakegurui's second season due to AL having a track record of not licensing and releasing second seasons of March Comes in Like a Lion and Amanchu and AL said "Let's just say you don't have anything to worry about in that regard in Kakegurui's case" only to never give any updates or news regarding the release of second season and then just never releasing it. Has the license for season 2 expired or has AL just given up on ever releasing it?

F*ck, Sentai Filmworks' release of Kakegurui Season 2 is out of print. I never ever should have trusted AL. I should have just bought Sentai's releases of seasons 1 and 2 of Kakegurui but no, I was a f*cking idiot who wanted to trust AL's words when they claimed we have nothing to worry about in regarding them releasing the second season. I cancelled my pre-order for Sentai's release of Kakegurui seasons 1-2 in favor of AL's release and wasted my time waiting for them to release season 2 which they never released.

Between Kakegurui and a few other seemingly abandoned shows, AL have created a situation for themselves where customers might hesitate to buy a series 1 release because of their tendency to never release series 2 - which results in a self-fulfilling prophecy as the series 1 sells poorly. I mean, I'm wondering if it's worth buying Dangers in My Heart s1 as it's 50/50 whether we'll get any more.

I don't necessarily blame them for not releasing more of a series that hasn't sold. But either staying quiet about it or, as in the case of Kakegurui, insisting that it's coming when it never does, is not ideal.

If I'm remembering correctly, AL announced seasons 1 & 2 together.

Edit: They announced both seasons at the May 2025 expo.

I've kicked myself a few times for not pouncing on the really obscure Gundam stuff rightstuf did. Even if AL are still working on the franchise, I struggle to see them EVER doing stuff like Gundam-san or SD. It's been a decade and they haven't even finished UC.

Thanks for that.

I think I'm a broken record on this one in this thread, but I'm in this position for The Eminence in Shadow. In the US, Sentai released S1 in October 2023 and S2 in September 2024. AL released S1 in December 2024, and as far as I know has not announced S2. I'd like to buy the AL version but I'd also like them to match so I haven't bought it yet not knowing if S2 is coming, and the more time passes the more it seems to me like it isn't coming.

Unless there is some kind of connection between when AL would release their version of the and Sentai's CE release, which was was just released last month. I know AL tends to use Sentai's disc encodes but no idea if they do anything similar with any of the CE materials.

So its;

Akira - April 17th
Angel's Egg - "Very Soon"
Grave of the Fireflies - "This Summer"
ChaO - "This Summer"
Godzilla Minus Zero - End of 2026

also mentions that catalogue titles will appear at various cinemas for a showing here and there, including Memories at the Prince Charles and saying its in 4K (There is a recent Japanese release of it in 4K).

No Castle of Cagliostro mentioned here however (was announced over a year ago for cinema release, rated in August last year). The Concierge was another announced a long time ago (announced almost 2 years ago, think a lot have forgotten), but has seemed very unlikely to happen for a year or so now and think at this point a late home video is the only viable option, at least 8 months after the US BD release now (if thats even happening at all).

I'll probably double bill ChaO and Millennium Actress in the Lighthouse next Saturday. ChaO is on at 2 and Millennium Actress is on at 5.

I cannot wait for Grave of the Fireflies to be in the cinema. Fortunately I haven't watched it so I get to be emotionally traumatised for the first time.

Anyone heard anything about the All The Anime spring sale? I haven't heard any mention of it since the email.

Concierge is weird because I believe they highlighted it at 2 separate MCM panels. Was one they seemed really taken by.

Curious if we might see AL exhibit at MegaCon. Haven't attended myself but it's run by the previous MCM owners now their non-competion clause is up. Seems to be getting better feedback too.
I for one would LOVE to see AL make a return, especially to more northerly conventions (i.e. MegaCon Manchester). I do miss the pre-pandemic conventions when both AL and then-Manga UK had their stalls out.

Would that be something you and the team might consider, @Hanners ? There have been a number of conventions sprouting-up in Manchester, especially in the last year alone!
