of course i love some modern shows but they are few and far between,i live for the old school, even after all these years of watching anime it is still the older shows that amaze me,most modern shows just come and go the classics will live forever.
That's because with old shows 90% of the forgetable ones have been forgotten already.
If you actualy tried to watch a crossection of old shows, rather than cherry picking, you'd notice they were prety bad. Animtion would be horrible, with tons of reused bits, plots would be very childish, with lots of recaps, and character design often wouldn't be internaly consistent, going off model much more. Modern moe character steroetypes are better than characters with no peronality whatsover (esp side characters), even if they do get overkilled.

I,ve seen my fair share of bad old shows to last me a life time same with newer shows, how dare you say i should try and watch a crossection of older shows, how the hell do you know what i watch and dont watch,i was just stating the fact i prefer anime form the 70,s 80,s and 90,s,its my personal opinion,i dont need people like you replying back and blowing everything out of proportion, big deal i prefer older anime to the newer stuff, big bloody deal.

Since when did I advocate doing it. "If you" =/= "If you'd"
I said older anime has these fairly constant (mostly technical) faults that have been ironed out of modern stuff.

Several of my favourites are from the 80's and 90's as well you know, but I accept those were rare gems and can still see glaring problems with them.

The impact of technical flaws on the quality of a show is a pretty personal issue, some people would I'm sure cite the sterile nature of most modern shows (as a result of this "ironing out" process) to be one of the big problems with them. There's also the issue of sheer number of shows that could have a large impact if you're talking "percentage of shows that were good".

Taiyou no Yuusha Fighbird-Episodes 1-10,gotta love the Brave franchise, its a shame none of the other shows apart from GaoGaiGar were released stateside,i,m sure it was due to the fact that is was not the biggest seller lol,but by god if you looked under the word fun in the dictionary you would find GaoGaiGar,just wish GaoGaiGar Final got a release,Yuusha Keisatsu J-Decker is next on my list to burn onto disc. :D

Poor animation, recap episodes, inconsistent character design - it's not just old shows that have these problems. Naruto for instance falls foul of these problems on a regular basis (and not just in the filler episodes either). Plenty of shows old & new cut corners either due to time or monetary constraints.

Current watching,

Darker Than Black Episodes 7 - 13

Saikano - Episodes 5 - 7

I'm really enjoying this, it very effectively says a lot about the effects of war without actually showing it to you explicitly giving the plot and imagery a lot more power.

You watch the same fansubs as me. To be honest I thought Fighbird was rather repetitive. From what I've seen GaoGaiGar is the franchise highlight which is why it got released plus it’s the newest show (which says volumes about the West’s perception of older anime), but we’ll never see a release of Final or Grand Glorious Gathering given how poorly the main series sold in the US (just look at how long it took to get a complete release). Even though I watched it raw Dagwon was good and I am keen to watch J Decker seeing as it was directed by Shinji Takamatsu who also directed Gundam X, which is one of my favourite Gundam shows, he also directed Goldran and Might Gaine (which I’ve seen some of, and is interesting given it’s about trains).

lol i have noticed we do seem to share the same taste in alot of shows and i must say we do have very good taste in anime, yeah Fightbird is quite repetitive but overall its just good clean fun and i,m a sucker for these kind of shows so i,m enjoying it,i,ll be starting to watch J-Decker soon so i,ll post my thoughts on that as soon i start watching it,i,ve got Might Gaine on bootleg so as you can guess the subs are poor but its still a great show.

Good taste indeed!!

Have you got the 5 disc 'Manga International' HK set? I got this about 6 years ago and yeah, the subs are awful and so is the pixalation at times, so much so that I gave up on after a about 10 episodes, someone did start fansubbing Might Gaine a few years ago but they seem to dropped it now.

Saikano - Episode 8

War is hell!

Urusei Yatsura 135-140

Little of Ran and Ryuunosuke and plenty of Ryoko make lunatic a happy fanboy. Shame about the Ten-heavy episode... he needs to die, preferably in his own fire.

Next up, a rewatch of Remember My Love, which first opened in theatres between the airings of episodes 140 and 141 (that I even know this is kind of sad). Then, afterwards, if I can be bothered, I will ramble to myself about the film in the UY thread.

It is indeed the MI HK set of Might Gaine i have, yeah like some HK sets it is a battle just getting through them with really bad subs lol,god i remember the fist of the north star HK sets i had man they were bad,but hey as you said i think the fansubs have been dropped a long time ago now, think there was only about 6 episodes of Might Gaine done, but since it does not rely on heavy story telling i can put up with bad HK subs, seems alot of the Brave shows were being fansubbed at one point but most seem to have been dropped which is a real shame.

"Proper lolled" as I believe they say.

I like everybody in UY. Probably because they annoy each other a lot, and I find watching people wind each other up immensely entertaining.
