Aldnoah.Zero Episodes 4-9: I've dropped this one because it was annoying me a lot. Episode 9 edges towards some interesting ideas but the series' unemotional tone really strangles this one. It's just not interested in characters having conflict or misunderstanding or even just genuine dislike of each other. And because it hinges everything on the main character none of the supporting cast get to do anything or even push back against him. You'd think him shooting down the princess' guard leading to his capture and savage beating by her enemies would be a point of contention. But the show just glosses over it. So there's not much to get invested in.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society (2006) ~ what a mouthful. This is a continuation of the second season that aims high by adapting the Puppet Master storyline we had seen previously in The 1995 Film, but for Stand Alone Complex's more politically focused lens. It’s good but probably would have benefited from being a miniseries. By the end I struggle to 'get' what the plot was in a way that feels unusual for the franchise. Still a good time though. It made me realise that a lot of my foundness for the franchise comes from Stand Alone Complex. Because that version of the story where Saito and Ishikawa show up and I'm happy to have them.
