C[Cube] ep 1 - Seems to have a fair amount of effort behind it for a pantsu anime (OP is way over-animated, generally awesome BakaTest anime staff), not a massively funny ep though.

MajiKoi!! ep 1 - W. T. F. Guilty pleasure of the season seems locked in.

Squird Girl season 1 episode 1 & 2

First thought - What the hell am I watching?
Second thought - What the squid am I watching?

I...actually found it funny 0.0...although I thought the whole set up came a bit too soon.

I just wish Crunchyroll would stop trying to sell me Cow & Gate Growing Up Milk...I don't have a baby, I'm not going to buy it xD

Un-Go 1 (Anime on Demand)

Squeezed this in really quickly before having to go kill skeletons this evening. I liked it a lot. Mysteries are always appealing, and the art style came to life nicely. Need to get the ED single when it's out...

Mobile Suit Gundam AGE 1

...but when I see some of the mobile suit designs (such as the Genoace) I can't help but think they were made simple so that kids could actually a good shot at making a model kit...

I thought this too, when I saw the Genoace my immediate thought was 'Playmobile GM'.

Star Knight Tekkaman Blade - Episodes 11 & 12

Tekkaman Blade isn't anything spectacular but it is a really good straight up mecha show with a solid plot and decent action.

Getting close to the end of ep 1 watching for the season, only Guilty Crown and Last Exile to go and then I can make some sort of summary post in the Fall season thread:

Ben-to - Such silly originality behind this series, you can forgive some of the more obvious shounen-actiony elements. Very solid first ep.

Phi Brain - Possibly the worst character art ever. It makes it look like a bad Chinese knockoff version of some popular show, and is borderline scary in the same way that seeing Pinocchio turning into the donkey terrifies children. Other than that, fairly entertaining. Layton anime now, please.

Mirai Nikki - Mmm, the high concept aspect of this show is instantly appealing. Don't have to look much further for where one of Mawaru Penguindrum's plot threads comes from. ^^; First half of the ep was kind of meandering, but the more Gasai was in it the better it got.

Ika-musume!? - This episode retained some of the flat spots that blighted most of the first season, but also all of the Ika awesomeness that highlighted it.

Kimi to Boku - Some sort of weird faces/eyes thing going on, would probably be more off putting in a season without Phi Brain. First episode had a moderate level of gay, which seems natural for what seems to be the "for girls" equivalent of Tamayura.

Tamayura - Looks a lot nicer than Kimi to Boku, feels quite similar. Love the use it makes of the city backdrops.

Maken-ki - Himegami is a little slice of awesome, but this is one seriously 90s (2011 has felt a little bit like a 90s revival, in some ways) harem anime trying to hide behind an all-action mask. Also, sorry C-Cube, this is clearly the real pantsu anime of the season.

Chihayafuru - Competitive Karuta. The fact that this series exists is reason enough to watch it. But the first ep was very enjoyable too, possibly my biggest surprise of the season so far. Has that innate level of fidelity you expect from Madhouse.

HaGaNai - :biggrin.gif: I am incapable of unbiased comment on this show, so I will limit it to saying that I think they showed with the first ep that this will be a decent adaptation of the LNs. I also think Sena vs Yozora is a much closer run thing than, say, Kirino vs Kuroneko in terms of who will have more fans, so I'm interested to see how that all shakes out.

UN-GO - Very classy first episode. Some interesting characters, especially Inga, and the experimental method of the adaptation is nicely suited to noitaminA.

Guilty Crown ep 1 - /sploodge

Even less sensible (especially in terms of the ridiculous way in which Shu gets caught up in events) and arguably more cliched than the other "high tension" noitaminA shows this year (No.6, [C], and Fractale - which it resembles most closely at first blush), it is such an animated sugar rush that it makes UN-GO look at least as reserved as Usagi Drop, AnoHana, or Hourou Musuko before it.

I had intended to keep imports from this season down to HaGaNai and Fate/Zero... but you know when you (ie. me) looked at the staff list and thought "can't possibly live up to that billing with so generic a concept"? Well, you (ie. me) were wrong. The redjuice character designs, especially. Why do I only own one redjuice doujinshi?

Surely Tetsuro Araki being the mastermind director would be a massive plus aswell? Especially considering he directed Death Note, Kurozuka & Highschool of the Dead before Guilty Crown :p

The first episode was certainly very promising...the show of the season so far maybe?

Squid Girl 3-10
Loving this series.

Also, I rewatched Squid Girl 1-4 with my 7 year old brother. He's loving it too - in fact, he went to sleep with my promising him we'll make Squid Girl hats tomorrow xD

Araki, Yoshino Hiroyuki, ryo, and redjuice were the main people for me when I say "staff list", although the seiyuu lineup is no joke either! But I'm an absolute sucker for character designers, so redjuice wins my special award. ^^;

Very possibly the best first ep of the season, I agree.
