Loner Life in Another World complete series: My Sentai sale items arrived and this was the first off the blocks. Generic isekai scenario, where an entire classroom is sucked into a fantasy world thanks to the appearance of a (never explained) magical circle. One, our hero, tries to hide but this means he is taken after all his classmates have chosen their special skills at the God place. So he is stuck with the weird skills no-one else wanted and is incarnated a little away from everyone else.

Lots of action, a bit of blood, monsters galore and a couple of pretty cool surprises made this a fun watch. Sadly, our loner only managed a couple of days on his own before everyone wanted to be his friend. Bah!

It was nice to see Saru put so much care into the Puma Twins little cameo, getting the original VAs back was a nice touch. It would be great if they get the chance to continue this iteration in some way after the main series ends, although I suspect trying to fashion something coherent out of Man-Machine Interface without making significant changes would be a tall order.

Chainsmoker Cat ep1-3

Really not quite sure what to make of this one, I’ve never seen such a lovingly rendered depiction of life in such absolute squalor. After the first few minutes seemed to finally answer the never-asked question of ‘what if John Waters made an anime?’, it does seem to have settled down, and can be very funny at times (albeit in extremely crass fashion), but given the subject matter, I keep expecting something horrible to happen to one of the characters at any time. Maybe that’s the point. You know, the only thing in the show that has really, genuinely disgusted me is the idea of putting sugar syrup in whisky…
