Last night I watched Mobile Police Patlabor: WXIII (Blu-Ray) and really enjoyed it (scored a 7) but is it even a Patlabor movie? Would love the stats on how long a Labor is actually on screen for, 7 minutes maybe?

All You Need Is Kill

I went to see this on Saturday and actually quite enjoyed it (leaning towards 8/10 as a rating), possibly more than others who have commented on it here. I read the light novel when the Tom Cruise movie came out (I really liked that film too) and I thought this was a good adaption, I liked that it was a tight 85 minutes and moved at a good pace and that it was visually a bit different. I want to see it again so will definitely pick it on home video and see how a second viewing at home fares.

Mobile Suit Gundam - Episodes 21 - 30

Still really enjoying watching this again.

I can't believe I haven't got round to watching this so far. I found it to be a very effective short film, being able to tell a complete story within such a limited run time,. I think the master stroke being that as it's a music video there's no dialogue to slow the pacing down and the visuals do all the narration instead which means short scenes can tell the viewer a lot very quickly. Looks absolutely gorgeous too.

An often repeated, and to be honest completely fair, criticism of WXIII. I've seen it quite a few times and really like it and just think of it as a side story within the broadening of the Patlabor universe.

I don't understand why so many anime fans have been down on AYNIK. I mainly think this is Shonen fans who have an expectation that 'action' should look a certain way being re-enforced by a pre-existing (and generally liked) Hollywood adaptation that is very 'action film' coded (macho macho men!) rather than this version which looks more akin to Ponyo than something like Attack on Titan. I think Science Saru do excellent work and the only nagging feeling that I was left with was "but what if Trigger had done this instead".

This was actually Studio 4°C, not Science Saru. Understandable mistake though given Masaaki Yuasa's worked with both studios.

Back to the main point though. As much as a lot of my favourites do fall under the more modern animation styles I do admit it would be great to see more projects break conventions even if it's just going back to older styles like Megalobox or Sonny Boy.
