The Publishing Director of Yen Press, Kurt Hassler, has announced that Kiyohiko Azuma's Azumanga Daioh manga will be getting a new English-language version, to be published in December.
On wondering if it will have the new artwork that is being used on the 10th Anniversary Editions in Japan, Kurt mentioned that he wasn't sure if it would be possible at the moment. It will probably be a newly translated and lettered version of ADV Manga's previous release.

ADV Manga released the manga in four volumes in 2003-2004, and then as an omnibus edition in 2007 in North America.

Azumanga is one of my favourite comedies along with Fumofu and Slayers, so this is something I'll be looking forward to.

Azumangaaa~

I already own all the ADV versions, however, if Yen Press do release the 10th Anniversary edition, I might just buy it.

If Yen Press pull out something special for this I'll consider the purchase.
I already own the ADV volumes so it's really not worth it unless they include some new stuff.

You can tell from the original editions Azumanga must have been hell to translate. So many jokes only Japanese people (or people very knowledgeable about Japan) would get, not to mention Osaka's accent.

I would like to see them lose some of the Westernisation in the new editions though, and make the dialogue flow a little better.

i was going to post this as a new news post, but since we have a more recent piece of news for azumanga, thought i'd just add it here. Apparently there is to be new chapters added to the 10th anniversary editions being released in japan from June. A new chapter will be in each of the Shonen Sunday Monthly magazines from may through to July.

This new information makes the following even more disappointing...

Yen Press has since picked up the rights to publish a new English-language edition, although Publishing Director Kurt Hassler indicated that his company is not releasing a version of Japan's 10th anniversary edition.
