So my boxset arrived today from play.com(can they deliver anything without damaging it?) and I was going to leave it until tomorrow but decided to give it a watch today. I really wasn't expecting anything much at all but for £17.99 for a whole series i'm not complaining. If it was bad I could always try and sell it on and if I couldn't sell it well there's no huge loss there.
However I was kinda surprised at how much I enjoyed the first episode... really! A nice setting, good music and classy animation. The only thing i'm kinda against is some of the character designs. J's design is good but some of the humans.... eh. Still it was a lot of fun to watch the first episode and I hope the rest of the series is as entertaining as that was. Seems like just the series I was looking for, a nice fun little action series.
This is turning out to be a real bargin and it seems like i'm going to get more than my moneys worth if the quality keeps up. Props to Manga for releasing this as a nice affordable boxset. This would have probably been a series that I would have skipped over if it hadn't been for the low price.
Now onto the technical side of the boxset for those who want to know. The picture quality is fantastic as with all the recent Manga releases i've seen. The subtitles are white with a black border around the lettering. Very easy and clear to read and they don't appear to be Dubtitles. Again the only problem in the subtitles department is the lack of sign only translations for the English dub. The box has all 3 volumes of the series in standard DVD cases held in a large cardboard slipcase just like most Manga releases( Not a hard box like like Stand Alone Complex). In each volume there is a small booklet which gives details on characters and episodes.
Again I think Manga deserve a round of applause for this release. An almost perfect release(lack of sign only translations stop it being perfect). We need more boxsets like this one in the UK. Excellent work Manga, you are beginning to really redeem yourselves from the sad state you were in a couple of years ago.
Now I wonder if there will be a She, the Ultimate Weapon boxset like this.
