Whos Looking forward to the live-action Dragonball Movie?

Man this would be a perfect time to post the Robot Chicken DBZ xmas link...ah well. After doing some research that girl turned out to be Mai. Still i've heard that James Marsters has signed on to do another two films after this one, so if Fox don't go down the tube with this then its pretty likely the next film will deal with the first part of Dragonball Z

I think it's one of those things that are so bad, that's good :) it's not dragonball though, I think that's the only way to make it bearable =P

dunno why they just didnt got the whole hog and make a dark DBZ film.

not exactly frickin hard.

Because it would be 3000 hours long, and making it "dark" basically rules out the DBZ target audience (the 9-13 bracket. Sorry for those who disagree but that's who it's marketed to).

....you're almost certainly right too, no self respecting 13 year old wants a bright yellow back pack for his hideously orange DBZ lunch box....besides, most 13 year olds start rejecting cartoons as kiddie/immature because they all want to to be 21 instantly.

Youth is wasted on the young.

I think anime fans will hate it, and non-anime fans will like it / think it's alright.

I don't think it will be that unsuccessful, because I'm sure they will make the film so that kids that haven't seen the anime will understand it. But yeah, it will be about the same success as ~speed racer made :p.

Oh, and anime fans will hate it because they will make big things out of the little things that were only slightly mentioned in the anime, eg. goku's town (they'll probably make a 15 minute part of the film about him biking through town or some crap, just a guess :p).

Why is it when something touches manga/anime, its doomed but when comics are used its perfectly fine. I'm gunnin' for a X-Men/Transformers/Superman Returns launch to be totally honest. I do realise that's far-fetched but I've got no reason not to believe in it.

I think the problem lies in that the Dragonball series is meant for a younger audience to teens. However the anime and manga don't treat it like a kids show giving it more room and accessibility for people of other ages to enjoy the series. This movie however just looks like a kids movie so far. It's looks very bright and childlike which will effect on the audience that goes to see it.

I have to agree in that "Dragon Ball" is essentially a comedy, and that most people seem to forget that part. I disagree with the fact that its a extremely colourful movie. The posters have deemed it that way but them IGN photos seem to rid that idea, somewhat.

DB 1
DB 2

I think all will really be decided once they finally decide to show Piccolo's face.

It's going to be better than the Dark Knight.
For that to happen someone need to kill Justin Chatwin...and somehow make him famous beforehand.

1. Justin Chatwin completes filming and hires hotel
2. Leaves a message on myspace where to find him and he OD's
3. Movie comes out and hits it big
4. ????
5. PROFIT!

It works every time.

EDIT: The famous part you ask? Well, him becoming an hero is a sure way to aim for the top of success!

so you havent seen the latest batman film then? which is rated a 12 to allow the younger auidiences to see it.

in this day in age it is easy to make a film like this that can appeal to both children and adults.

And that 12 has been VERY controversial, largely because people keeping ignoring the fact that 12a means "12, unless your kid is really mature, and CERTAINLY no under 8s".

Anyway, I personally disagree with it being "easy" to appeal to kids and adults, simply because very few films pull it off. I mean, you cannot say that Dark Knight appeals to children, or is even filmed for children. It just simply isn't. I'm actually slightly annoyed that it IS a 12a when it should be (under BBFC guidelines) be a 15 due to sustained threat, sustained violence (and gore), and specific incidents that are copyable by kids (not that I link violence in films to violence at home, I'm just stating BBFC guidelines). If you want a film for kids and adults you have to look at Pixar, because they're the only people who have repeatedly pulled it off in western cinema in the last decade or two without simply resorting to post-modern fairytales that NEED TO STOP.

I defy any writer, no matter how good, to make DBZ dark enough to satisfy its adult fans, light enough to satisfy the kids, understandable enough in its own right (and good enough) to satisfy new adult viewers, and close enough to canon to have the fanbase on-side and at the SAME TIME making it live action. You simply can't tick all those boxes at once.
