Death Scythe
Just thought i would make this random little post, i think it's quite interesting to know though :)

Don't hesitate to say if i've left one out or done one wrong :)

we have ahd this theard before but this year it has charged for me. last year it was MVM but BEZZ is doing such a good job now that im voteing for them

ADV.
I just enjoy their products more than Funi or anyone else... Always choose an anime with a cast that is at least decent.

Beez by a long shot. Nice looking releases, good tranfers, and boxes now and then. No complaints really. *though i'm just going on Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain.

MVM have been bad in the past with ugly looking cover art which wasn't transferred properly and looked more like bootlegs(R.O.D the tv, Chobits) but recently they've started to redeem themselves with some nice crisp cover conversions(Samurai Champloo) and the occasional artbox(Paranoia Agent). What they need to do is rerelease You're Under Arrest with the Japanese language track and subs though...

Manga have some sexy looking releases but are plagued with technical problems which they claim to have fixed but haven't(Stand Alone Complex).

ADV's UK releases are almost identical to the US releases and for that they are good but they don't give us any artboxes and they have some of the worst english dubs.

Every Columbiar Tristar release I have bought has been near perfect, no complaints at all.

Usually I just stick to the US releases though, it's a lot less hassle.

it's kind of a mix for me, MVM are Beez are on a par, but MVM have sub-liscenced some great anime titles for 2006 (Tenjou Tenge and Spiral to name a few), and whats more, they have brought us some really great stuff like artboxes!!!! w00t artboxes ftw!, and have even brought us a free manga book by teaming up with Tokyopop. What more could you ask for! (well artboxes with the rest of their releases lol), but one step at a time. MVM have really pushed the boat out for 2005, and i hope they continue to do so throughout 2006 and beyond!

With Beez, they have brought us some sterling things in 2005 too, with artboxes as well, Cowboy Bebop box sets ftw! And with a line up to die for this coming year, theres more to come *prays for artboxes*

I just think that overall MVM FTW!

Is it just me (or as i mentioned a good half a year back), do ADV releases have some dodgy soundtrack every other release, it's got on my nerves and they don't seem to have noticed and nor has anyone else.

What releases? Every UK release of Noir i've seen has been perfect and i've seen the first 3 UK volumes of Chrono Crusade and they seem fine too.

Lol, as far as i know its not on Noir 1-6, havent got 7 yet, havent got Chrono Crusade either.

Well i was going a bit ott when i said every other release, but it got to the point that unless i forgot about it, every ADV release i got, i constantly listen out for the noise instead of being able to enjoy the anime!

To list a few, it's on the last few volumes of FMP! its on Prétear 2-3 (maybe 4), it's on RahXephon (one of the end volumes but only slightly), oh yea and how could i forgot... FF:U vol 3, which was the single most annoying sound-going-wrong thing i have ever heard. It was so bad that i couldn't even hear the voices because of it. I sent that one back along with Pretear a good few years ago (ADV said to send it to them but it was too late i had already sent it back to play.com for a refund :/). I forgot exactly what the sound was like, but i remember it was something like it was being played through a tube, and it was different parts of the sound that did it, like on Pretear, it was things like a door closing or a bang etc, but on FMP it was the background noise, like (the bit when the submarine under the water made it aweful) then on FF:U, it was just like it was being played while going on the London Underground :/ It's enough to totally spoil viewing pleasure. But not many people can hear it, so unless i have got super hearing then it must be a problem with the disk :/

Oh, and on one MVM release too, it was a bit differnet but still a problem with the sound, i think it was on volume 2 of Ninja Scroll TV.

Hmm actually I think I know what you mean now. I thought you meant out of sync or static at first but the english dub track on Chrono Crusade volume 2 is kinda echoed if I remember correctly(I had it copied from a friend). I just checked my US release and there's no echo or anything. I hate the dub so it didn't really matter anyway.

w00t, finally someone else who hears it!

As you said its not on the Japanese soundtrack, just the dub. I always watch dubs though on my dvd's (maybe i should change that, since i got into fansubs i changed my mind :O). And also as you said, yes it's like an echo, it's just a weird noise. But if you listened to dub and the anime for the first time, i think you can see, it would spoil it and its not fair.

EDIT: And on my Excel Saga perfect collection (that i bought in America!), the dub was perfect!

I think it could just be that ADV cheaply make the disks and/or have a crap master disk, either way, ADV are poo for not realising this. It isn't like a fansub where you can expect things to go wrong sometimes, because they don't usually lol. It's the thing that you pay for that has the problem on...

I just found my copied UK version of Chrono Crusade volume 2 and it does indeed sound like it's being played in a bathroom! Want me to rip a section of it and post so people know what we're talking about?

I assume you're talking about the downmixing problems ADV UK had about 2 years ago, do they still have them on thier recent DVDs?

It would seem so, i don't know what downmixing is, could you elaborate for the less in the know of us please :)

Link is here!
I ripped about 30 seconds each from the opening theme. The first one is the UK dub track, the second is the US.

And BTW my names not actually Dave, it's Sy(I should probably put that in my sig or something...). :p

Thx for doing that, much appreciated, Sy :D

It's a little hard to hear on the pc actually, but it's definately there, lol and i heard a bit of the Chrono Crusade OP, now i really want to buy it. It seems to be a different kind of weird sound for every case, this one seems to be a bit slurred i think.

ADV should be notified. Also i can't see how we get the crap...again...and the US get it perfect :/ Even when we pay a LOT more than them too! Unbelievable tbh :S

EDIT:: LOL i love this song so much i'm gonna have to go download it right now!

No prob. :)

What it actually sounds like is two identical audio tracks that are identical layered over the top of each other but are ever so slightly out of sync. I'd email them about it. If you do, be as formal as possible and you're more likely to get a response.

Yep thats exactly what i did when i found the problem when i bought Pretear anf FF:U (which was about the time they came out, not sure when that was, must have been a few years back).

They sent me back an e-mail saying to send them to dvd's and they would check it and send me some new copies. But it was a late reply and i had already sent them back to play.com :/ I was thinking about e-mailing them again about FMP! and i re-bought Pretear lately, still has the same problem (hoped it would be fixed a few hundred units more through their stock but it wasn't :/)

I would e-mail them, but i kind of spammed them loads after that lol (i even e-mailed them and said that their plastic box sets were 'cheap' LOLOLOL, can't believe i did that now, oops :/ I've never had a reply since either..hmm wonder why. Well i didn't spam them, just sent a good few e-mails about certain things

EDIT: ps, i've listened to that OP thing u posted about 20 times now lol, love that first 5 seconds of it, love it all! lol i'm mad

Yep Yep, Chrono Crusades opening music is one of my favourite OPs for sure.

Just in case you want to know, it's called Tsubasa wa Pleasure Line by Minami Kuribayashi and it has a beast of a guitar solo. ^_^
