Which direction should non-Japanese manga be published?

An intresting take on it, arby. You're right in that sense but still to me i would prefer it if they kept the original reading style of the langauge they were writting in unless they were trying something new with layout.

Although you have me thinking on something, has there been any manga that when released in japan wasn't right to left? I mean in the sense they were adopting the western style?

That is an interesting thought, and if there is i wonder what the reasons where behind it.

At the same time i wonder if there are any non-Japanese people who live and publish comics in Japan, if so, what do they do?

Well, there are plenty of Japanese magazines and such printed left-to-right, but these tend to have left-to-right text in them, rather than top-to-bottom, right-to-left text that you traditionally associate with Japanese.

I think it'll depend on a few things actually. I mean for example, general Manga artists get their work published(if they're lucky) in a particular manga magazine, take JUMP for example, so if a foreigner in japan makes a comic/manga chapter for one of these magazines, i'd expect it'd be in their traditional format, right to left. However, if they where to perhaps work on something competely independantly(i don't know how many have done so there, or if you can) Then i'd expect it could easily be down to author's preference. If he/she is more used to drawing them in a right to left format or left to right format then i expect that will play a big factor in it.
